Iowa State signees shining during postseason play

March has arrived and the postseason for collegiate and high school basketball is here.

For the trio of signees in Iowa State’s 2022 recruiting class, the next three weeks will write the final chapters of their high school careers.

Eli King put on a show on Monday, too.

Eli King (Caledonia, Caledonia HS)

Next game: Saturday, Section 1AA Semifinals vs. No. 5 Lewiston-Altura

The Minnesota sectional playoffs began this week and King kicked things off with a 26-point game in the first round.

His Caledonia team comes in as the No. 1 seed in its section and sits two games away from a birth in the state tournament in Minnesota that plays out in a couple of weeks.

Demarion Watson (Minneapolis, Totino-Grace HS)

Next game: Wednesday, Section 4AAA Quarterfinals vs. No. 7 St. Anthony Village

Watson’s team will get started with its own path to the state tournament on Wednesday, sitting as the No. 2 seed in the section.

With a win, the team would advance to the semifinal round which is set for Saturday.

Tamin Lipsey (Ames, Ames HS)

Next game: Wednesday, Iowa HS State Tournament Quarterfinals vs. No. 8 Burlington

Tamin Lipsey and the Ames Little Cyclones will head to the Well on Wednesday for the quarterfinal round of the Class 4A state tournament.

The future Cyclone is averaging a team-high 15.9 points per game as well as 6.1 assists.

With the No. 1 overall seed, Lipsey & co. will try and do what the late 2000s Ames teams did and bring home a championship for the first time since 2010.
