RECRUITING: Iowa State lands 20th commit of 2022 cycle

Iowa State has landed another notable piece for its 2022 recruiting class.

Florida defensive back Trevon Howard announced his pledge to Matt Campbell’s program on Sunday via his Twitter account. The IMG Academy-product was committed to Northwestern up until a few weeks ago.

Howard, 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, is considered the No. 510 player in the 2022 class, No. 42 safety and No. 74 player in Florida by the 247Composite. Howard, who visited Ames back in early June, chose Iowa State over offers from Northwestern, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Liberty, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, NC State, Oregon State and USF.

This is Iowa State’s 20th commitment in the 2022 recruiting class, which currently ranks as the No. 27 class in the country and No. 4 class in the Big 12 by 247.

Howard is the fourth defensive back in the Cyclones’ class, joining three-star Florida cornerback Noble Thomas, three-star Texas safety Jeremiah Cooper and three-star Florida safety D’Angelo Hutchinson.
