Recruiting Roundup: December 7, 2018

Finally back at it this week with a roundup after taking a break following my son’s birth back in September.  Speaking of days of birth, Matt Campbell and I landed a huge recruit on the celebration of ours this year, as in-state 2020 offensive lineman Tyler Miller (Jefferson, Iowa) pledged to the Cyclones last Thursday.

Miller is a 6’9″ tackle who was offered back in March and has taken at least six visits since, most recently for ISU’s win over Texas Tech at the end of October.  He already held offers from Cincinnati, Minnesota, Nebraska, Purdue, South Dakota State and UCF.  Iowa and Kansas State had shown interest but not yet offered.  Rivals rated him as the No. 1 prospect in Iowa and No. 31 OT in the country, while 247 Sports rates him as the No. 5 prospect in Iowa and No. 57 OT.

Cyclone fans will enjoy this quote from Miller from an April article by Bill Seals of Rivals.com:

“I grew up a Hawkeye,” (Miller) said. “It has been a change for me. I’ve noticed the difference in how the two teams practice. Noticing the practices, an Iowa practice compared to an Iowa State practice, just the energy level Iowa State has over Iowa…I really like that a lot. They’ve got a lot going on that they didn’t when I was little.”

Iowa State now has three prospects committed for 2020, a class that is currently rated 22nd in the country by 247 Sports team rankings. Quarterback Aidan Bouman (Buffalo, Minn.) and linebacker Cole Pedersen (Leon, Iowa) announced their commitments over the summer.

BASKETBALL LATEST:

*** Small forward Dudley Blackwell (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) has a top three of ISU, Florida, and Ohio State, according to an article by Corey Evans of Rivals.com.  Dudley was offered by the Cyclones on July 26th and plans to reschedule a canceled official visit that had been planned for November 9th.

*** A member of the ISU staff was in Chicago on Saturday for the Chicago Elite Classic, according to Matthew Bain of the Des Moines Register.  2020 targets SF Cam’Ron Fletcher and C N’Faly Dante are two prospects in attendance that hold offers.  Iowa State has also expressed interest in 2020 PG Tyler Beard, PG DJ Steward, and 2021 SG Ahamad Bynum.

*** Bain also tweeted that Iowa State was in Milwaukee visiting 2020 power forward Jamari Sibley on Friday.  Sibley already holds 15 P6 offers, with the Cyclones extending theirs on August 7th.

*** Class of 2020 quarterback commit Aidan Bouman (Buffalo, Minn.) also took a jump in the rankings this week, climbing 5 spots at the Pro-Style QB position to No. 20 and 72 spots overall to land at No. 467 in the 2020 class.

*** With the regular season over, the staff is extending new 2019 offers to fill out the class.  Four wide receivers picked up new offers from the Cyclones.  Ezeriah Anderson (Seffner, Fla.) holds P5 offers from Boston College, Missouri, Oregon, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Virginia.  Jerrod Means (Hampton, Ga.) has P5 offers from North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Rutgers, Tennessee and Virginia.  Charles Njoku (Wayne, N.J.) and WR Ahmarean Brown (Tampa, Fla.) both have double-digit Power 5 offers.  Brown has scheduled an official visit for next weekend.

*** ISU offered two tight ends this past week.  Skylar Loving-Black (San Jose, Calif.) holds 22 D1 offers and power conference offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Nebraska, Oregon State and UCLA.  Jeremiah Pruitte (Marietta, Ga.), who is fresh off a decommitment from Louisville on November 25th, has other P5 offers from Indiana, Pittsburgh, Purdue and Syracuse.

*** Current Georgia State cornerback commit Tyreke Harrison (Plant City, Fla.) picked up his first P5 offer from the Cyclones on Wednesday.  Harrison has been committed to Georgia State since June 16th and will take his official visit there this weekend.

*** Iowa State also gave out some 2020 offers to running backs  Jahmyr Gibbs (Dalton, Ga.) and Miyan Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio), as well as defensive end Amin Vanover (Montvale, N.J.).  2021 RB Audric Estime (Montvale, N.J.) picked up his 5th power offer from ISU.
