For 49 days, we here at Cyclone Fanatic have remembered some of the greatest seasons, players and games in the history of Iowa State football in conjunction with our friends at Tailgate Clothing. Today, with one day until Iowa State’s season opener against South Dakota State, we have something a little different.

Football Is Back

The lines are painted, the hash marks are down

It is time for Cyclone Nation to come to town

From Neola to Davenport and in between

Excitement has not been higher than 2018

They have brewed up the storm and won in the dark

All after Kyle Kempt got the team out of Park

We said goodbye to legends who wore seven and five

We will never forget them in all of our lives

Legends are made and can never be born

With David Montgomery back there’s no reason to mourn

The defensive line might be the best we have seen

And the uniforms they will wear look so freaking clean

The old-timers said Cyclones can never wear black

But who cares when Spears leads your defensive attack

We hope the magic has moved across fourth street

We do know Matt Campbell’s team will always compete

This whole thing could hinge on the O-line improving

It feels like the difference between winning and losing

Butler and Eaton and Tarique Milton, too

We can’t wait to see what these receivers can do

The air smells like pork and of course Busch Light

For every yard, we know the Cyclones will fight

We remember Jack’s promise and say I will

Even with a company’s name down on the field

Loyal Sons Forever True is more than a song

It is the life we live and to what we belong

Like Kene Nwangwu our pride never runs slow

It is time for the cardinal and gold to flow

Grab your favorite red cap and tailgate shirt

You can already hear the Cyclone weather alert

Load up the car, let’s pack the Jack

The countdown is over. Football is back.
