RECRUITING: Iowa State lands preferred walk-on from Texas

Iowa State has landed a preferred walk-on commitment from Cypress Woods (Texas) athlete Tory Spears, according to his Twitter account.

The 6-foot-4 wide receiver/safety is a member of the 2018 recruiting class. He appeared in only three games during Cypress Woods’ 4-5 2017 season due to injury, recording five tackles, one interception, one tackle for loss and 53 kick return yards.

He worked as the site's intern for three years while studying Journalism in Iowa State's Greenlee School of Journalism. He started as the full-time staff writer in May 2016. Jared has spent five falls covering Iowa high school football as a reporter for KMA Radio, 1460 KXNO and 1430 KASI. He's the sideline reporter for KASI's Ames High football broadcasts and has appeared frequently on the station's baseball broadcasts during the summer.
