Football Recruiting Roundup: Feb. 16, 2018

(From the editor: All rankings information via the free portion of 247 Sports database. Visit information, etc., has been compiled through prospect information on Twitter and sourcing within Cyclone Fanatic.)

The recruiting process has decelerated this week as the NCAA Calendar moved into a Quiet Period.  This period in the cycle began last Friday (Feb. 9th) and will continue until April 14th.  Here is how the NCAA website defines a Quiet Period:

During a quiet period, a college coach may only have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents on the college’s campus. A coach may not watch student-athletes compete (unless a competition occurs on the college’s campus) or visit their high schools. Coaches may write or telephone college-bound student-athletes or their parents during this time.

THE LATEST:

*** Rice graduate transfer safety J.T. Ibe has said he hopes to make a decision by the end of March. He will be choosing between three schools, taking official visits to all three.  Ibe’s first visit was to Ames Feb. 2-4, which he followed up with an Indiana visit last weekend.  He will take his final visit to South Carolina the first weekend of March.

*** The staff only handed out two offers this week.  The first went to Donald Willis, an outside linebacker from Cleveland, Ohio.  Willis holds offers from Ball St., Bowling Green, Cincinnati, Kent St., Temple and Western Michigan.  The second offer was extended to cornerback Tavian Mayo of Leesburg, GA.  Mayo holds offers from Ball St. and West Virginia.

*** The Cyclones hosted nine prospects for next years class this past weekend. Cedar Falls OLB Jack Campbell was once again on campus, already having visited a handful of times.  CB Isaiah Wright (No Profile, from Overland Park, KS), CB Devin Blakley, and ATH Da’Shaun Brown were all making return visits to Ames.

HIGH INTEREST:

*** Strongside defensive end Darius Robinson is the latest high interest target after earning an offer from Iowa State on the last day of January.  His profile also shows high interest in Purdue, with other offers from Ball St., Ohio and Toledo.  The Mississippi prospect plans to visit Ames on April 14th.

*** SDE Jalen Hunt announced that Iowa State, Missouri, and Syracuse are recruiting him the hardest.  The Cyclones became Hunt’s third offer last May and he now holds seven P5 offers.
