I've been coaching youth football for the last few years (4th, 5th, and 6th grade). We run 11 players per side (as opposed to 8 or 9 player).

I have been using cyber-shack and football.com for ideas for youth football playbook info:

Does anyone else have any youth football playbook links that they could share with me for 11 players?

Funny you bring this up today.
What league do you coach in?

Wart - he's in Minnesota, so I doubt anyone would be familiar with the league. :)

I've gotten some info from the web and some in dealing with coaches I've worked with in the past. I'm using a basic Power-I playbook this year that could be obtained anywhere I'd assume.

Meeting with a "specialist" today for some offensive linemen drills and blocking schemes.

Zumbro - You'll have to keep us posted as to how your season goes.

Here are some links I've referred to in the past at one point or another...

That sounds so cool. I think it'd be a ton of fun.

Something that I would suggest is scrapping I formation unless you know you have a good OL.

I remember playing in my first youth football league in 6th grade... All we ran was dive right, dive left, sweep right, sweep left, and QB sneak.... We were really awesome though...

In those youth leagues you don't need a ton of plays. You just need players who execute them well.

Good luck with everything!

I know a lot of teams from small towns want their younger kids running the same sets and plays as the HS team in that town does. Don't know if its the same case here though.

Exactly.

I like the Power-I at this level for a few reasons.

- It's very simple to learn.
- Gets the kids heading up field at the snap of the ball in most of the plays
- Blocking schemes not complicated
- Setup for quick counter plays

I ran a double-wing for a couple years under a former head coach. I liked the offense for some reasons and didn't for others. I do plan to have a wedge blocking play or two for some quick hitters.

The problem with the double-wing in my experience was, kids love to head for the sidelines and sending them east/west on the snap of the play only fed that "need" to hit the sidelines.

Generally, as long as the kids can block and tackle at this level - everything else will "take care of itself".

Also, I see you're in Ames. They do have a league up there and will play a game or two against teams from the WDSMLPYFL teams.

We're a league from kids combined from various area schools. I know that the 7th/8th grade does that with school coaches.
