I would've killed to have seen NIN there. That show was frickin' epic and I still youtube it frequently. If any NIN fans haven't seen their Woodstock performance of Reptile I suggest you check it out.

You're thinking of the 94 lineup. I went to woodstock 99.. it was a riot. literally. The only show mentioned on here that was physically painful to endure for days.

I saw the Chili Peppers in Omaha a few years ago and thought they were really good. They have a bunch of good songs and of course Flea and Kaedis really get into the music on stage. I'm hoping that reports for OAR are wrong, as I'm going to see them in Omaha on Sunday. Haven't been to many really bad concerts I guess. Some were just kind of OK and not great, like Fleetwood Mac and Van Halen maybe 8 years ago. Maybe McCartney at JTS back in the early 90's or late 80's. And Aerosmith at Hilton back around 94. The Goo Goo Dolls/No Doubt/Bush concert when they went on tour together wasn't anything to write home about.

I forgot, one concert got close to being easily the worst for me. Last winter George Strait. Wife drug me to it and even she was OK with walking out halfway through. The only saving grace was that Eric Church opened with a solo set and he kicked ***.

I think one thing to consider is bands will often have "off" nights. My wife & I both saw Aerosmith before we met. She said when she saw them they sucked because it looked like Joe & Steven were arguing the whole time; Tyler kept messing with his in ear monitor. However, when I saw them at a different show (I think it was Hilton about 10 years ago), it was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

I have yet to hear anyone say that KISS sucks live, tho.

Here is how I would rank the artists I have seen in the past couple years (best to worst)

Paul McCartney
Frankie Valli
Rod Stewart
Eagles
Beach Boys
Chicago
Bob Dylan
Peter Yarrow
ELO
Moody Blues
Kansas
Stevie Nicks (The worst by far)

I saw Moody Blues in the 80's and they were bad playing those songs without any backup accompanists .....

I went one more time in the early 90's at The Mark in the Quad Cities (with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra)--and it was amazing.

You're thinking of Woodstock '94. NIN played that year, not the '99 show. 1994 was an amazing performance where they were covered in mud and just destroyed all of their instruments. I'd give just about anything to travel back in time to see that performance live.

This pains me to say because I love the band, but when I saw Dinosaur Jr. a couple years ago at 80-35 that was very unimpressive. I know they are getting up there in year and maybe their peak performance years were in the 90's, but the venue was not cooperative and they just sounded and performed like they age.

So I know its reached mythical proportions, but jesus h ******, Mike Jones at Veisha years back was an absolute abortion of a concert. So awful I'm going to allow myself to ramble:

First he is late, like way late. I'm thinking it as like an hour or so. Big crowd waiting b/c at that time, "Back Then" was still somewhat popular. Guy finally shows up, looks high as ****. Comes out there, crowd is pumped, in a frenzy, super excited, knows all the songs and lyrics off of every song he has released. So what does he do? He starts rapping to new songs on an upcoming album that nobody has heard of. None of this stuff had been on the radio or released at all. And these songs sucked to boot. Sound quality was awful. To top it off, he somehow expected people to know the lyrics to these songs, so on some chorus lines, he would hold the microphone out to the crowd, like we knew what the ******* song was. And of course, nobody said anything, b/c again, nobody knew these new songs or lyrics. Well after about 3 or 4 times of this happening, you could see Mike Jones was ******. He rambled on for what seemed like another 5 minutes, then dropped the Mike, mutter some curse words, and bolted.

I smoked a lot of pot at that Veisha. I also drank a lot. But I still remember that trainwreck of a performance very vividly. Best part of that performance was the free second hand high everyone got due to the mass number of hitters pulled out when he showed up.

**** you Mike Jones.

I think rap music live is hard to judge, groups like Doomtree, Atmosphere, Wu Tang, and Outkast seem to be fun exceptions to me. But I feel like most live rap is just not that great usually...... I think groups that key more on lyrics tend to translate better live, that that the production drive the music it is very difficult to duplicate in live settings especially outdoors.....

Absolutely. Lots of people talking about O.A.R. Probably seen them close to ten times. Shows at Hilton in '05 and Bonnaroo in '04 were some of the best overall shows I've seen, and have tapes of them both. However, saw them in Chicago (and brought several people with me) and everything was off, stuff was in a weird key, and overall a bad experience. Probably didn't help that they followed a killer opener in Robert Randolph & the Family Band.

The 2nd to last Grateful Dead show was not good at all. Jerry was in really bad shape that night. Forgot whole lines in songs, almost fell over. Our seats were on the opposite side of the stage in Soldier Field so sound and sight both stunk. Luckily, the next night he made up for it. And then he died a month later. :(

Also, the 2 times I saw Bob Dylan (1996 and 2002) were both great shows. His voice is shot but he and his band kicked *** both times. Mark Knopfler was in the band for the show in 1996 and was fantastic.

I saw video of Rage Against the Machine from that show and had to turn off the VCR when my dad came near the TV. Good times.

I saw Dylan with Charlie Sexton on guitar in Lincoln about 5 years ago. Unlike everyone else on CF, I really enjoyed the show. He was energetic and interacting with the band. He sounded like Dylan, it was a good show.

The worst I can recall is some chick called Sister Soleil that opened for Blue October at the Mid America Center in CB. Just some hot chick singing (poorly) and dancing to recorded music. It was awful, but had a decent light show.

I'll list two. Blink 182 was horrid and their front man was completely obnoxious. The current (shadow of the original) version of the Marshall Tucker Band is horrid. Then add Taylor "auto tune" Swift to the list. I've been fortunate that the vast majority of concerts I've been to have been good. Next up is a bucket list show for me...Queen at the United Center next week.

Worst actual band I've ever seen live way Rilo Kiley. They were opening and my goodness they were terrible.

During high school there was a local band I'd go watch in the Des Moines area. I will never forget a band by the name of Feathers are Beautiful opening for the band I was going to see. The rest of the band was on stage and the lead singer literally walked over from the bar, I think he may have been bartending but I'm not sure. He proceeded to hop on stage, scream for 30 minutes straight, and walk back over to the bar.

I saw Nine Inch Nails play 20 years ago with David Bowie. NIN played first and was great then Bowie came out and just sucked the life out of the place. Everything about Bowie's performance was absolutely terrible.

I saw Jefferson Starship and they sucked, bad. But I also got to see Ted Nugent open for KISS, which was worse yet. KISS was an outstanding show, and I'd always liked Nugent's recorded stuff until I saw him live. I was excited to see him play but then he steps out with that stupid racoon tail (or whatever) hanging off his *** and his performance sucked so bad. It was miserable, and people started throwing their beer cups on stage, which prompted a 15 minute whining rant from Uncle Ted. But then Kiss came out and blew everyone away.
