I just signed up to start donating plasma at BioLife.

That said, I run every day. I was hoping to get some opinions on what is acceptable and safe for workouts when donating plasma. Everything I am able to find online says don't work out afterwards until the next day, so that much seems clear. Does anyone have thoughts / experience about working out before donating?

My friend works out before all the time. Just make sure you're hydrated.

I wish I could do it. I was deferred until November.

Donated blood last night, all they said was don't lift anything for the rest of the night and drink 4 glasses of water. Bloods a little different than plasma though. I don't think it's the before that you have to worry about, it's the after, and they will let you know when you get there what not to do after. Drink water before though, of course.

Work out before, and not after.

I used to donate at Bio Life all the time, and if I tried to run afterwards, I would make it a half mile or so and just be completely drained. I usually ran between 2 and 4 miles no problem at this point in time.

If you do it before, makes sure you hydrate hard, because it goes pretty slow if you're dehydrated.

Definitely make sure you're hydrated or you are going to have a bad time. Also, cross your fingers that you don't have ****** vein locations like I do apparently.

Work out before, drink after. I always chase my water with alcohol.

What's up with you workout freaks? Can't you skip one day? :jimlad:
Seriously though, just donated blood for first time last night. Important cause, and will now do it regularly. Please consider donating if you don't already.

I experience the same symptoms too; maybe a little more run-down almost flu-like feeling.

Depends on how hard you go before hand, its gonna make your recovery that much longer, and of course never wanna work out right after, the next day always works for me too, I am a double Red Cell Donor.

Plasma - nothing much to worry about. Whole blood - give it a day. I love donating blood, but it affects me more as I get older.
