Getting the cheapest price is NOT the way to go. We are talking about a KEY safety device in your car here. THe windshield is part of the strutural integrity of the roof. Installed incorrectly and you can be killed in an accident during a roll over. Make sure the place is reputable. NGA certified technicians and they follow AGRSS rules. Do a little investigating. It is not all about price and water leaks.

The place I got mine from took the window out of the car then had a auto glass place come in and install it to the junk yard. so not much to worry about there I don't think.

That is probably fine. I am just saying that there are alot of junk yards and body shops out there installing glass like it was still the early 60's. The Federal government has a safety standard that has to be followed. Just be carefull. There is more to it than you think.

I agree, I am looking for somewhere to do this correctly rather than cheaply. I have 0 free time so I would rather pay for less hassle than have something go wrong with it later. I understand quality costs $$ and I am willing to pay for it.

I got a call at work last week and they guy asked if anyong needed a new windshield. I was surprised, but I did need a new one and told them to stop by.

They arrived when they said they would, I got to negotiate the price with them and got out for 200 dollars. Seemed like a good deal. No complaints so far.....3 days in.

Maybe the cop gets 10-20 bucks for every lead that he gives an autoglass replacement company He would have the license plate numbers and could get the phone numbers.....

Thought I would bring this thread back to life since the information is a bit dated. Does anybody have any updated recomendations on where to go in Des Moines?

I just went to Kinman auto glass a month ago, I think I got the name from this thread. But he was $100 cheaper to replace the windshield than 3 other places I called, one place was double his price. Its just a small shop on the north eaSt side of des moines. He was great to work with.

I used safelite to fill a chip in my windshield when insurance was paying for it. They came to my house and it was pretty slick. We recently needed a new windshield in a different car. It was going to be out of pocket. Called safelite and they were $100 more to come to your workplace. I took it to Scotty's in downtown DSM and it was a good price.

Most insurance companies fix windshield damage and cover it as part of your insurance if you have comprehensive insurance. I had a crack fixed on the recommendation of our insurance agent saying it wouldn't be noticeable. WRONG!!! I should have made them pay for the whole new windshield and took the chance of breaking the seal and getting a leak. That won't happen again when the insurance is paying, I'm getting a whole new windshield regardless.

I used Kryger Auto Glass in downtown Des Moines. Came out to my house, installed a new windshield in about 1 hour. Very prompt and courteous. High quality workmanship and it wasn't very expensive as I recall. Windshield and Auto Glass Repair | Kryger Glass
