Average is an over statement. They got worse every year he was there. He can recruit very well but that's about it. He's the Steve Lavin of football...or Ron Zook, if you will.Brady Hoke was incredibly average at Michigan. What makes anyone think he would be a good fit at ISU?
Got a good chuckle out of the Brian Ferentz as a known bright young coach.
based on what again? Daddys team. Daddys oline...He didn't need Brian before. Doesn't need him now.
I can't think of a less qualified coach. Oh and I don't like him either.
Your argument would be valid if it weren't for the fact that Hoke got worse every year at Michigan and had by far his best success with all of the players he inherited. You do realize it takes time for most recruits to mature into the players they become. He inherited a team of players that didn't fit his style at all. His first two years were with Rich Rod players only for the most part.
He coached Gronk and Hernandez with the Pats during Gronk's rookie year and led them to a sensational year. The Oline at Iowa that he's coaching now is VERY good and they are starting two first year tackles that have been injured for half the season. The guy can flat out coach.[/QUOTE
I would be good with Brian Ferentz. And NO WAY to Brady Hoke. He couldn't get it done with Michigans resources and you think he's going to come to ISU and hit a homerun? Ridiculous. And Hoke didn't wear a headset on the sidelines either, just like CPR. I know it's a small nuance but it speaks volumes....
I would be good with Brian Ferentz.
Why do people consider this (or Kendall Briles) a serious option? No, Kirk Ferentz's son isn't going to come be head coach at a rival in-state school to the one his dad coaches. Also, Kendall Briles isn't going to coach at a school in the same conference as his father.
Some common sense would be nice.
In the article, Chris mentioned:
"A rogue idea that I think is a good one: Get a Tom Wilson (Dowling Catholic) or Gary Swenson (Valley) on the next staff. Get somebody on the next staff whose connections to the Iowa high school ranks are second to none."
This is actually not a rogue idea at all. It has been proven to work. Earle Bruce hired longtime Dowling HC Jim Williams as the offensive line coach. Jim stayed on when Donnie Duncan was hired, and also continued with Jim Criner. Here is a retrospective on that chapter of Cyclone history:
