I 100% agree with this, but listen to the talking heads in ESPN, and any time a guy is “set to get paid”, it’s all about this salary setting the market, give the guy what he deserves, show him respect, etc. They try to paint the teams/owners in such a light that they are cheap, don’t appreciate what the player has done…maybe play the race card.

But you’re right, the team/owner should have also been smart enough to let him walk, despite any bad publicity.
You're only hearing what you want to hear, then. Because while yes, some of the media speaks out in favor of a guy getting setting the market, there are plenty who argue against it, and are happy to wave the "he's not worth it" flag.

See Brock Purdy. Nick Wright has been effectively shouting into a megaphone about how the 49ers shouldn't pay him. And he's far from the only one.

And to use your example of Dak, people like Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless were constantly talking about how the cowboys would be stupid to give him a max deal.

Blum is so good that Hawkeye fans think we have a billionaire backing our program. This is a serious post I have heard it mentioned many times by Hawk fans.
Yeah, we often oscillate between the "poor little brother" and "only good because we have big money to buy players" in their eyes. We're stinking rich and destitute at the same time.

Not much more than frantic blubbering, because the gap has become much narrower than it used to be, and their fragile egos can't take it

Those guys aren’t on ESPN, but that’s fine…I’ll give you that point. I’m not looking to be the only one against the absurd anyway.

I’m comfortable dropping this. I 100% think Dak and other like him are idiots…but again, I concede your point that any owner willing to pay them is also an idiot.

Fair enough. I'm good with that

I've always been fine with Jamie saying no to beer. Didn't necessarily agree with it but figured the revenue must be minimal enough for him to stand his ground and feel ok with where we stand in the grand scheme.

Now by openly admitting they are exhausting nearly every other avenue for revenue, it is just silly to not sell beer. We should see the AD do everything they can to chip in as they are asking fans to do the same. Even if you only make $1 million in revenue, that REALLY matters now.
Yep. You can't go around telling the world that we are a poverty program struggling to survive, and then at the same time turn down a revenue source of $1M± per year that most of your competitors have already embraced.

(Wells Fargo) Arena --- Casey's will pay about $18.3 million over 10 years, according to the naming rights agreement. Under the contract, the company will pay $1.4 million in its first year and $1.6 million in the second year, with a 4% annual increase starting in year three.

Midamerican energy is paying $1.5 million per year for 10 years at Jack Trice.

Seems like we should be able to get something for the naming rights to Hilton Coliseum.

This argument only works if fans aren't going to ***** about losing a bowl game. And we know from last year and 2021 that we aren't above ******** about bowl losses. How many times did I read on here that people just want Campbell to take the bowl games seriously? This could be part of him taking them seriously.
Last year they were concerned about keeping this season's team together. That was well explained.

1. Why?
2. Why do you, me or anyone have that right?
3. That’s not CMC, the staff or administrators responsibility nor should it be.
What?! You're telling me that when it was announced that the whole team was playing in the bowl game that it didn't inspire more fans to travel to the game or tune in? Get hyped all week leading up to the game? Fan should be told because they're the ones footing the vast amount of the bill. Plus, it was a letdown to find out at kickoff.

1. Competitive disadvantage, not advantage.

2. If you don't care whether you win the bowl game, what's the point of playing in it?

3. Based on your logic, we should sit all our starters and play the 3rd stringers since our opponent will have very little tape on them.
Whine whine whine. Fans pay for ton to keep the programs alive and waiting until last second isn't a good move going forward. It's deflating as a fan to find out last second when you expected them to play all week.

I guess you'd be fine going to an NBA game, paying hundreds, and then find out a player is off for loans management.

You seem to be the one doing the whining. "This game is ruined for me because I didn't know that a player was sitting out!! I bought a ticket. I'm entitled to know!!!!"
