You're only hearing what you want to hear, then. Because while yes, some of the media speaks out in favor of a guy getting setting the market, there are plenty who argue against it, and are happy to wave the "he's not worth it" flag.I 100% agree with this, but listen to the talking heads in ESPN, and any time a guy is “set to get paid”, it’s all about this salary setting the market, give the guy what he deserves, show him respect, etc. They try to paint the teams/owners in such a light that they are cheap, don’t appreciate what the player has done…maybe play the race card.
But you’re right, the team/owner should have also been smart enough to let him walk, despite any bad publicity.

And to use your example of Dak, people like Colin Cowherd and Skip Bayless were constantly talking about how the cowboys would be stupid to give him a max deal.
