Im sure other people have noticed this as well but when you are on Cyclones.com there is that header on top o the page and the other day I saw Cy's house of trivia header and noticed that Cy does not have his Blue facial color anymore instead there is a Dark Maroon so does that mean that Cy "the mascot" will change as well and get rid of the Blue? and go for the Dark Maroon color?

That was part of the new logo launch. They kept the punching Cy and swapped out the blue for the darker red, which I was happy to see. I always thought that was a cool logo that wasn't utilized enough.

I think he was asking if the color of the actual mascot outfit will change to be the deeper cardinal color, as opposed to red.

Good question.

God I sure hope so. I think the current Cy is way to bright. But now that I think about it..... who really cares. I'd rather just win.

Thx Prone2Clone, It looks much better that way Im all for no blue. I hope they do change the actual mascot to give it that look but Im guessing they will still keep the blue eyes and the black in the teeth and maybe just change the blue around the eyes to dark red or even black. He is to bright now im excited to see how things play out next year I've always loved graphic arts

Every change cost money...as JP said, the change will take place in stages. Not sure Cy will be top priority yet.

They aren't going to change the physical costume of Cy for a couple of years if I had to guess or until they get enough money to do it all at once. They just updated him a year or two ago and they have to replace all 4 of the Cy costumes at once. Be very weird to see 2 dark and then 2 light colored Cys at football games. If I had to guess, those costumes probably aren't cheap.

Cy's costume costs what... a couple hunderd $$$. Maybe have a few of them? Were talking $5,000 max. Chump change for an athletic dept rebranding.

If Cy's costume gets changed before the athlete's get new uniforms in the new colors, there is something seriously wrong with our Athletic Department's priorities.

That's all I really have to say about that.

Not sure exactly what they run but try several thousand each if I'm not mistaken... and thats just athletic Cy. Still not all that much in the grand scheme of things but JP is pretty short on money for everything he wants

There is also PR Cy (sadly, I've been able to tell the difference between the two before ), that'd probally have to be updated too.

I know Cy has gotten new costumes over the last few years (I can tell by the heads), and even had new feet this year (we gave him crap about having stuffed toes insted of plastic ones, even though the plastic ones had a habit of ripping off...), if not more of the costume so they may not want to replace him right away, since they would have to replace all of them at once.

We've order company mascot's. The mascots are probably $3000 plus each. Could be substancially more based on construction, patent rights etc to make. And the Cy's would have to be super durable which would add to the costs.

Wouldnt that be nice to be one of those schools that never worries about money or branding?

It sucks having to wait years and years for things to get done at ISU.

It does suck and I would love to be at the point where somebody says Iowa and they think ISU but the Nebraska's and USC's of the world had to start somewhere.
