any other towns around central Iowa. Again, this is just another reason to spend elsewhere besides Ames. I visited the F&F in Ankeny last weekend and purchased gas for $1.95. In Ames it was $2.09. WTF

Some of it is that gas in DM is cheaper than elsewhere. I was told at one point that there is a hub in the area that reduces the transport costs, don't know if that's true.

Also, Kum and Go has set themselves up as the only big name in town so they can charge more. HyVee opening a gas station helped, but once Casey's got boughtout there really wasn't any significant competition.

Dang. Makes me miss Ames. Where I moved to, I paid $2.49 today and the gas tax is going up $0.10/gallon on January 1.

In major college towns EVERYTHING is more expensive.

Would always fill up when I was visiting family in Des Moines during my ISU years in the early 2000s. It was pretty consistent around 10 cents more in Ames when I was there. I have no good explanation as to why.
