Who will be our next Defensive Coordinator

Let's be real, Wally is a good coordinator if he has solid, ready-to-contribute Big XII players. He has guys who, with experience and development, will be studs.

BUT I don't think Wally has two or three more years in him. Wouldn't you rather let a new guy make an impression on these kids before they're juniors and seniors and Wally isn't here anyway?

I don't think you hire inside the program for this one. The defense is clearly moldable and I think ISU would be smart to find something different on defense. However, CPR isn't going to let some guy take over and change what he considers to be the best thing about his skill set: defense.

I don't really think he has a choice. Last year he used the offensive staff as a scapegoat for the bad season to give people hope for this season. This year it's the defenses turn. The production on the field really has made it easy for him.

I reallllly hope it's not Shane. We need new schemes, and he has nothing near the credentials to be the DC anywhere.

The real question is why would a proven dc come here knowing we essentially have to make bowl game next year or hes gone in 2016?

Some guy with some baggage (too old, too fat or a morally checkered past) plus his requirement to get son to be an assistant on the staff as well.

Wally isn't going anywhere.

Wally was talking retirement before this cluster of a season began, so yeah, he may very well be leaving. And I'm too lazy to search CF for where I saw it so if you need concrete proof that this was mentioned feel free to search yourself.

Couple names I wouldn't mind seeing draw some interest.

Tyson Summers- Defensive Coordinator UCF
He has lead UCF to be one of the top 10 defenses in the country this year and was at the realm when UCF upset Baylor in the Tostito's Fiesta Bowl. Southern Ties and someone who would likely appreciate the challenge at ISU. He's a younger guy that can relate to our young defense a lot better than I'm sure Wally can/does. Here's his coaching experience copied from UCF's website.

Coaching Experience
• UCF, 2012-Present
Linebackers, Interim Defensive Coordinator (Tostitos Fiesta Bowl, Spring 2014)
Defensive Coordinator (2014)
• UAB, 2011
Safeties/Co-Special Teams Coordinator
• UAB, 2007-10
Linebackers
• Georgia Southern, 2006
Safeties
• Georgia, 2005
Graduate Assistant/Defensive Backs
• Troy, 2004
Graduate Assistant/Wide Receivers
• Presbyterian, 2003
Defensive Backs
• Tift County (Ga.) High School, 2002
Assistant Coach/Defensive Backs

Phil Snow- Defensive Coordinator for the Temple Owls. Also a top 10 defense and he has a lengthy history when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. He's an older guy but his schemes and his ability to turn defenses around no matter where he is at speaks for itself. Below is his coaching experience from Temples site.

The best shot at getting a good DC is going to come from a team where the HC gets fired or from someone at a lower level that will get a big pay jump. No one from a decent team with a decent salary is going to make the jump to ISU in the current situation.

Wally hasn't forgot much, if anything. We get blown up at the line of scrimmage or our linebackers overrun what difference does it make who sets up the D. More Jim's and Joe's than X's and O's.

People didn't think Mess would be gone, and Rhoads made sure he was gone within a week of the season ending last year. Rhoads isn't stupid, he will do what needs to be done.

There is no indication I have seen that Wally is leaving.

Perhaps the #120 ranked defense in the country might serve as an indication that CPR doesn't want him in charge of half the team in a "make or break" season for Paul's career

I know this comment will not go over well, but here goes.
I think JP should make a splash and throw big money at Bo Pellini to come over as a DC/Assistant Head Coach. I'm not sure Bo would even consider the position, but money talks and i think he is exactly what we need on the defense.

We should probably try for Nick Saban and Jim Harbaugh, too. Maybe Gus Malzahn would take a job as our film editor/Assistant Director of Football Operations.
