As we await Selection Sunday, who are the teams you've watched this year that we wouldn't match up well against in the first two rounds? North Carolina and Kentucky are the top two I want to avoid. Gonzaga is a sleeper with good bigs that would give us fits too, I think.

Anyone from the b12

Ha :) I hope they can figure things out. I just think they are worn out and tired. I think that they have tried, but they really aren't playing for Prohm. I think he's tried, but he's just not a great coach. And I think Monte is playing with a bum shoulder and a bum knee/hip.

It has been a fun season and I am excited for next week, but they just don't have a run in them. I don't think that means it was a bad season either.

Source? Link to info on this?

That's a real shot in the dark.

Whoa, whoa! They just played the #1 team on their home floor on senior day, and a top five team with the best player in the country to draws. A few bounces(which in the last few years we have had)and we win both. The effort the last two games will get this group a couple of wins at least in the dance no matter who they play. Unless of course Higgins and Eades are officiating. Then they might as well just refuse an invite and call it a year.

That would basically mean we tied, and I'm pretty sure neither of those games ended in Iowa State having anything other than an additional L in the W/L column. Not dogging on the guys, they lost to superior teams that have more depth and fire power, but all the excuses in the world don't cover all the losses over the past 3 years with this team.

I guess we can say that every loss was because we were tired, didn't really need the W or the giant anti-ISU officiating conspiracy struck again - but those are all excuses that don't hold much credence. Refs haven't been any worse against us as they have every other squad. We haven't played a schedule that we shouldn't have done better with. We lost a couple home games that we should have won. We didn't put teams away when it mattered.

It's JSB, that pretty much guarantees the exact opposite is true from whatever he said. Dude couldn't be more anti-ISU MBB.

Yale then Purdue would be a dream match up to me. Duke would be a 200 point O/U, as I don't think they could stop us at all, and we might not be able to stop them either. I haven't seen SDSU play this year, but they usually are long and athletic, so I'd prefer to avoid them.

I think Duke and Kentucky would be incredibly hard matchups for us with their size. We can hang with anybody for 30 minutes, but I don't see us winning down the stretch against either of them.

Kentucky would be tough. Duke cannot defend to save their lives. I think we'd eat them alive on the offensive end. I think we'd have trouble stopping them too though. Would be a fun game to watch.

They are division one athletes that are about to get a few days rest. They should have plenty of energy for one game. What will be the difference between a decent run and an early exit is if Monte can be Monte. With his injuries that might not be possible though

thats rich coming from you. You only post when we lose, and it is always a dig at the players. Usually the players that TJ didn't recruit.

How is Purdue a good match up for us?

Yeah I personally think Purdue would be a horrible match up for us. As would Gonzaga. Any team that has 2 or 3 true big men scare the **** out of me honestly. I cant wait for the tourney though, as I am not one of the people throwing the towel in. I understand we have lost 2 in a row but I think we have played 2 of our best games all year in those loses. I am extremely confident if we don't run into a "big" team we will be in the sweet 16!

This, x10000.

If ISU can two consecutive decent games out of "Bipolar Nadar" (3 rebounds and 4 turnovers in 38 minutes -- are you kidding me?), we can get out of the first weekend. But I doubt it.

I posted back in Dec. or so that "reasons were turning into excuses." This bullhockey about "they're tired" has risen to the top of this kind of rationaliziing. Especially to an ex-marine like me. They're 19-21 years old, for ___cks sake, all they basically have to do is go to class once in awhile, sign autographs, and play basketball. And: "It's a long season"?
How come it doesn't look so long to Kansas right now, or even Oklahoma, which was playing very poorly down the stretch themselves.?

IMO, I would prefer NOT to play a Big12 team in the first 2 rounds, beyond that this team fears no team, I am just exhausted as a fan to sit through the ringer of the round robin that was Big12 season......

We aren't allowed to due to bracketing rules

I think this team has a run left in it. As far as who I hope to avoid, I've seen a couple sites have us against Purdue in the second round. I think that would be a horrible matchup against their bigs, although the inverse of that is always, of course, how they would guard us on the defensive end.

We lost to the #6 team in the nation with a "Player Of The Year". Sure glad the Debbie Downers and Trolls on here don't reflect 99.9% of the best fan base in America aka "Cyclone Nation".

If we can't get Monte healthy, we'll likely not make it out of the first weekend. With a healthy Monte (and rest of team), I think there is potential to beat anyone.

Avoid first 2 rounds:
Any Bluebloods (Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, etc)
Teams we've already played (Iowa, UNI, Cincinatti)
Any team not named Holy Cross

Most fans have picked up on this teams late game struggles and the fact we only picked up 3 wins against the top 5 teams in the conference. You can still be optimistic if you want but those are two big red flags right there
