I have not searched player rankings and would like to know if there any elite, or really top, HS volleyball players in Iowa for 2016-'17. And if so, is Iowa State recruiting them or have they committed elsewhere?

I noticed that ISU didn't have any of the Prepvolleyball top 100 for next fall. We had three last year, right?

Heard there's a really top hitter coming out of AKBGLSD-GHB of Clarindoah that could be good. Teresa Killbump I think is her name.

I don't know who we're after, but was surprised to see the rosters when UNI played Kentucky. Kentucky was more highly ranked then, but has two (2) Iowa girls playing significant roles. Kaz Brown from Waterloo at 6' 4", and Brooke Morgan from Dike at 6' 5". That's a pretty big block. I trust our coaches, though. We'll see how things shake out. We could use some 6' 4" girl that jumps out of the gym. Not only that, but a hard worker willing to sacrifice her body for every dig like Nolan.

I can't remember the story behind those two but both were known here. UNI took it hard as both were in there backyard.

Watching some big 10 and Pac 10 matches, ISU is definitely undersized. As athletic as our gals are, you just can't always overcome these 6 5 girls with almost 7ft wingspan. Watched PSU play WI and the whole time I thought, boy, they would make ISU as undersized as we made UNI look. However, blocking is looking poor in almost every match I see. I think offenses are just getting better. The difference is passing. I think PSU only have WI five free balls the whole match....

Brooke was a big time commit to Wisky. I *think* I read that she didn't get into the school. She was a top 10-15 recruit. So I don't know if that went down too late for us to have a scholly spot for her or what. Because skillwise she's definitely above Kentucky. She could have played at most any program in the country.

just remember that when it comes to recruiting Iowa has Playing Time to sell............they are building up and have several slots open...........it you were a recruit and looked at coming to Iowa State what position is there going to be immediate playing time next year or the year after???? Unless you are a top 10 or 20 recruit pt is going to be hard to find...............the Big has some crazy size and skill..........if we could get a big middle and another big OH we would look so much better

Couldn't agree more with this! I'd love to see Alexis play OH and get her some more swings, it seems like we haven't been setting the middles often. Maybe that's a function of the passing?

2016 class has been pretty quiet.

Mauck from Des Moines will be a good one for 2017. Seems like she comitted to CJL ages ago. Tall setter with a huge wing span, I'm guessing will be the #1 instate player in that class and top 30 ish in the country

Hearing that CJL has eyes in the 712 area code. Didn't get a name, though.

We signed two for 2016: OH Anna Kiel of Unity Christian and defensive specialist Sami Hillmer of Urbandale.

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State volleyball program welcomed a pair of in-state signees for the 2016 season, head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch announced Thursday. ISU will welcome outside hitter Anna Kiel of Unity Christian, and defensive specialist Sami Hillmer of Urbandale to the program after the duo signed to join the Cyclones

Nevada Girls volleyball made state for 3 straight year and this year has made it to the State Championship. One of the girls Kati Cassabaum is going to UNI on VB scholarship.

Kiel comes from the same Iowa town of Orange City as Alexis Conaway (but from a private school). Kiel is an inch taller but strongly reminiscent in Alexis in all-around athletic accomplishment: See this Sioux City TV Athlete of the Year feature on Kiel here: http://www.siouxlandmatters.com/sports/local-sports/kiel-wins-abc9-female-athlete-of-the-year

Anna does not appear much in National Ranks because she is not a AAU player from a small private school out in NW Iowa. CJL sees her as major get and under the radar diamond.

would she have gotten any time against Foecke who I think was from that region?

would love more players like Alexis!
