Don't overthink it, its Saban. Though what Dabo has done at Clemson is worth mentioning - historically a nice program but certainly not on par with Alabama or USC.

Bob devany. Nebraska had seven consecutive losing seasons before he came and he turned them into a dynasty that lasted 40 years. Coached the greatest college football player, helped start footballs best rivalry and won college football’s greatest game.

I saw a Saban stat in the Sugar Bowl that blew me away. He now has 100 wins vs. AP ranked Top 25 teams, and is the ONLY coach to do that. I know rankings can be funky, but they are funky for everybody. That is impressive no matter how you cut it. Sheesh, 100 wins in and of itself is awesome let alone against ranked teams.

Gary Barnett's work at Northwestern deserves a shout out.
If the thread title was "Really good College Football Coaches" and not "Who are the greatest College Football Coaches ever"

Some names being thrown out deserve to be on the first list, not the second.

He was more than just wins and losses.
For me personally, this is important. I can't include Paterno or Meyer among others because they have additional baggage. It's like saying with a straight face that Barry Bonds is the best HR hitter of all time. Sure, he has the numbers to make that factually correct but IMHO the PEDs make him intelligible for the conversation.

Sports are arbitrary and pointless outside of building character. If you don't take character into account, then there is literally zero value to athletics.
