So, what was the issue with whistles in Indianapolis?

Good article. Thanks for the work, Rob. Curious about what this means in the second to last paragraph: “Those things may include some heavy 12 and even 13-personnel sets at times.”
Thanks, Redman. 12 personnel features two tight ends on the field at once. 13 personnel puts three TEs on the field at once — ground and pound mode.

I see Rob answered it already but the first number is always how many RB’s on the field and the second number is TE’s. So 10 personnel is 1 RB and no TE’s. Most of our offensive plays (and I’d guess majority of most football teams) are run out of 11 personnel

Good stuff as usual Rob. The staff continuity is huge. And the fact that they genuinely like each other is equally huge. I can't believe how far this program has come in four years.
Thanks — and agreed!

I hate to be that guy, but is it possible that Campbell is bringing Manning in as a chosen replacement? Why else would Manning come back to college, especially when he had so much success with Eric Ebron. That's how you get OC positions in the NFL.

I think it is more of a situation of Campbell not filling the position of OC because there was a possibility of Manning coming back as OC. Campbell was aware that Manning missed the college coaching. Campbell may or may not leave Iowa State. You never know. Campbell is not about just money. Campbell signed an extension and got no more money for himself. Increased money went to the staff. Gotta love working for a guy like that with that kind of character and class.

It's interesting to me that a former national offensive line coach of the year is now coaching our running backs. I would have assumed he'd come back as Offensive Coordinator/O line coach. I'm guessing that Campbell must really like our former GA who he promoted last year to O line coach.

Way up there
Love the idea of multiple TE's being used, we have capable guys at that spot, hopefully they can out in the receiving game, replacing Butler won't be totally possible but this group has the size to create some similar mismatches, especially in the red zone.

Manning didn’t return to take over for cmc...You don’t return to a job just bc your boss might leave sometime in future whenever.. Now that doesn’t mean Manning wouldn’t take over if cmc left..just sayin.

I think two things...1- Manning And CMC..wanted TM to get an NFL perspective and different offensive perspective while also building his resume...and 2- TM truly missed being at ISU. Have to also consider he has young kids and a wife and family who might just be better served living in Ames.

Wts...having TM back is gigantic for this year. As for the OL..believe me TM will be plenty involved with the OL and it’s development.

Dont let them, Manning and CMC, fool you. The 12 and 13 packages have always been a goal they have been working toward. Used often at Toledo. Of course, that is only my opinion.

At the CF Recruitment Day party, Campbell promised C-Dubs dad that he would throw a long pass over the middle to a TE this year. The 12 and 13 may just be guises to get a TE open down the middle.
