Where is the defensive discipline?

If you're trying to say Eustachy he is in Fort Collins at Colorado State...

Indeed. When Larry was here, the expectation was tough defense--and for the most part, his teams followed through. Granted, it's probably not fair to hold the current team to that standard, but I do miss the hard-nosed attitude that those Eustachy teams brought to the court.

I wasn't trying to say Eustachy, I meant Doc Sadler. Defense is a mindset like rebounding. It's more about attitude than skill. This team has shown it can play good (at least pretty decent) defense when they're making the effort. Not sure why they couldn't find the intensity given the importance of the game last night, but hopefully they will for the remainder of the season.

A couple of observations...

1) This team can play good defense. They've done it in stretches. They just seem to be lacking the mindset that they need to play good defense for a whole game, start to finish, against quality competition. Hoiberg has been constantly talking about the necessity to keep up the defensive intensity for the entire game since last off-season, but somehow it hasn't translated to game time. This is a tough one, but the coaches have to figure it out if the the team (now and in future seasons) is to achieve the goals that Hoiberg has set out. This is not a problem unique to this year's team.

2) Hoiberg seems to be of the mindset to let the team figure things out, as opposed to frequent intervention. That works fine for some individuals/groups. However, for others, more instruction/correction is needed to keep them on the right path. This is another tough issue, and occurs in any personnel management situation. It's not easy to become "hands-on" for a manager who is by nature good at solving problems on his own and "hands-off". This team seems to be the type (perhaps as opposed to teams of the past years) that needs more intervention. It's late February...if the switch hasn't clicked on by now, the coaches are probably going to have to intervene and flip it as necessary.

They had some lapses on D and at the same time just weren't on on the offensive side the last five minutes. It happens and Baylor played very well. I am not sure why people are flipping out so much. They had three really good games in a row before this and Thomas is starting to play really well. They can definitely still win out and possibly tie for conference championship as KU still plays at OU
