When was the last time there was this much excitement in football recruiting?

To be honest, fans always find ways to create excitement and hope out of nothing, so to increase reality from nothing to a little has an exponential impact on that.

The hype train begins about this time every year, and it's a full on bullet train the first year of any coaching change. This year is no different than DM's first year, Chiz's first year, or CPR's first 2-3 years. While I think this coach has a better chance at turning that hope and excitement into reality, he's still going to be fighting an uphill battle until that proves true.

I love our new staff and have all the faith in the world in them, but pretty much everybody says that every time we hire a new coach in any sport; it's natural to renew optimism until proven wrong.

Well that was a depressing post.

Chizik, for sure. There was excitement about specific players under Rhoads (Jantz, Lazard, Campos), but I don't know that anyone was so kool-aid drunk to think that the addition of a few players could drastically change the program.

There was so much optimism when Chizik was hired, though. Mayyyybe there was that much after beating Oklahoma State in 2011, but that faded pretty quickly when we lost out and got embarrassed in our bowl game.

The fact that I'm even in the Football forum during basketball season is amazing to me. This is uncharted waters! I was a big Coach Rhoads supporter, but holy cow, this new staff is getting it done!

after beating the #2 team in the nation, and becoming bowl eligible for a 3rd year in 4. Everything else has been down hill since then, especially that bowl game( the beginning of the end), with the exception of signing Lazard and Campost the 2 following seasons.

When Chizik got Leonard Johnson then got Sedrick Johnson to Flip from A&M people were pretty excited. Both rivals 4 star. Can't remember the * kid he beat Michigan St out for as well. Looking back KO should have been a 5*
