What's up with Boozer

I don't want to freak out and down grade everyone and the coach. I want to but I won't. The one thing that has me wondering is why Sean Haluska get's so many minutes when Charles Boozer comes in and makes nice shots. Hit 3 pointers and hustles. Haluska can't shoot in a gametime situation and Boozer seems to be at ease. I just wish at this point we start getting these young guys a lot more playing time. Especially Boozer. I think by the time Boozer is a senor he will be a really good role player and someone the other team has to keep guarding. He reminds me a lot of Hurl Beacham.

I think we'll see more of Boozer as the season goes on. Especially if WJ has to redshirt. I really wish we could find some consistent play at PG because Peterson has looked aweful lately when he has to go up against better opponents.

I feel confident that Boozer has not seen much of the court for a reason. The guy has some talent, yet it's very raw.

John Neal came off the bench into a game once and drilled a couple threes. How did that turn out?

I certainly think Boozer > Neal, but I also think the coaches know who needs to be out there right now.

Boozer is going to get more minutes because of Wesley being injured and Sean's play. Do I think Boozer earned a chance to see more of the floor last night? Sure.

Do I think we should just knee-jerk and make a complete switch? No.

My point is How long can we let Haluska miss shot's before we give the go ahead to someone else. I have nothing against Haluska it's just that I am having Brock flashbacks. I hear how great he is in practice then he is a no show in the game. On the other hand I hear how Raw Boozer is and yet he makes the shots. Plus I really don't think he looks raw at all. I think he needs to learn the plays better and get more movement out there but I would say he is far from Raw. The kid plays in the offseason with his brother and other NBA guys. I think he knows what he is doing.

Wasn't it reported here last summer that Coach Mac was very high on Haluska? Apparently nothing has changed.

Sean was 2/3 last night. I think he's taking very few shots because he's missed so damn many of them. So I'm hopeful that will boost his confidence.

Again, I think Boozer earned a little more playing time last night, but again - I go back to the John Neal thing - we all thought the guy would be great for us after that Iowa game a few years back. And he wasn't.

Boozer made 2 shots in garbage time. I'm not about to tab him guy that makes shots anymore than I am Sean.

From what I have seen of Boozer and Haluska it appears that Boozer has a MUCH better idea of how to play team defense. He understands when to sag off and help out. Haluska thinks he plays in his man's face even 40 ft away from the ball. I could care less about their offense since neither will be counted on as a scorer but when it comes to defense I would put Boozer way ahead of Sean.

Haluska has been given chance after chance because he is lights out in practice...maybe, he can't do it in a game....I don't know - that's the staff's decision

Before this game, Haluska was shooting 4.8% on the season. He was 1-21 from the floor and 0-18 from 3 pt. land. I'm 99% confident that Boozer could make more shots than that. Maybe going 2/3 last night will help his confidence, I hope thats the case. Or maybe he isn't a gameday shooter a la Brock Jacobson?

I don't ignore that it could be true. We're not foreign to guys doing well in practice and choking in the games (See Shaggy).

I am certainly not against giving Boozer more time, as I have noted. What I am against is abandoning Haluska, because I think he'll get it turned around.

I started a thread on this last night, but I believe the mods removed it. I've come to the conclusion that GMac is "in love" with BP and SH. He seems to feel the team cannot handle itself without one of these two on the floor (if not both at the same time!). Let's invest in the future GMac! Allow your future horses to play some minutes...start some games. I can live with their mistakes because I know they will grow because of them.

I might drop a load in my pants if GMac starts a game with BP and SH on the bench. Pigs might be flying on that day!

We all know you want Coach McDermott to win a national championship this year or he should be fired. Maybe you could win 1 of those Coach of a Day auctions and tell GMac exactly what he is doing wrong instead of continually bash him on an internet message board.

Boozer honestly couldn't do much worse than Haluska has done so far and the way this season is going why not play the young guy and get him some experience? Right now Haluska just isn't bringing much to the table.

If we're going to lose anyway I'd rather have freshmen learning from their mistakes than overmatched Juco transfers taking all the minutes.

agee. That is what I am thinking also. Either that or redshirt all the good players and let Haluska and Peterson run the show.

I wish BP can dribble... or attack the basket... All the good team has PG that can attack the basket and score/pass. We seriously need to recruit good PG. I think Diante has potential except he needs to play smarter and slow down.

Let Diante play... and get him some experience... We all know that BP can't make the game.

I think Boozer will be good player... as long as he can break out of his brother's shadow.

I think our guard problem has more to do with the inability to break down defenders and to get the ball inside to our big guys. That's where I think Garrett would be the best alternative. We might turn the ball ove a little more, but we would also get a few easier baskets. Another thing, our big guys are not playing physical basketball, shorter guys are out-rebounding and out-hustling us for loose balls.

Yeah this doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Didn't coach M say that Haluska isn't in there to play D, he's in there to shoot. Well if that's the case, Boozer's D isn't any better and he has a much better shot so why isn't he in there?

Boozer's D is MUCH better than Huluska's

I don't know if he's a better defender as in he knows how to defend better (like Rashon for example). He has a much better reach and is quicker which allows his defensive position to be better just from a physical aspect, but I wouldn't say he's MUCH better. A minute point, but either way I think he should be in there.

Our problems this year are all going to boil down to guard play. The caliber of play out of our PGs is not good enough. If we had a guy like Blalock this team would be so, so much better. Drake's guards were much better than ours.
