Last time I went thru Pleasant Hill it looked like the waterpark had been shut-down for some time. I always remembered it being pretty busy, any idea what happened? Also, did the super slides that went straight down ever get opened for use? I do not recall those ever being available.

Even busy, i'd imagine its hard to keep a place like that open when it has a limited time it can be open each year.

Whitewater has been closed for awhile. I know the city of Des Moines has been looking into buying it from the current owner to turn it into a water park of their own, they've been considering it for a few years now, I think. The problem is that the owner won't open the books for the city to show them the income/expenses/losses/profits that the park made, so the city hasn't wanted to take the gamble on it thus far.

Yeah been closed for quite some time and the city also has residents not wanting them to buy it because it has the makings of a money pit at tax payer expense

these places get stale in appeal quickly --- it's why the business plan must show the lender they are whole in less than 5 years

Basically what happened was a dispute over taxes and the city. All of you saying adventure land closed it down are wrong, white water has been closed probably 4-5 years before A-land's pool ever opened. The city was trying to put some huge tax on the guy's water usage and he got ****** off and decided not to run it anymore as it was a summer business for him, I heard it generated more than enough to keep operation costs and what not but it was the taxes that got him

It was actually Pleasant Hill who wanted to buy it, and reopen it.

Pleasant Hill Iowa - The City is thinking about purchasing "White Water University"

The state closed it after testing showed 23% of the water was actually urine.
