Our group has 3 toddlers to chase around, but what are ideas to occupy some time on the beach.
..

agree with another poster. If these kids are younger than 8 years old...leave them with Grandpa

I'm amazed at the people Ihave run across who HAVE to go to Disneyworld with their 2 & 3 year old brats because their NEIGHBOR went

younger toddlers don't remember a damn thing. Leave 'em at home. waste of money and pain in the butt towing young kids that age

Get you thoughts out of the gutter. :wideeyed: We are Leaving for Mexico for a Week, Tomorrow. South of Playa Del Carmen (ie: south of Cancun). AI resort.

-The wifey just enjoys laying on the beach reading a book and getting some sun.

I assume I will:
a. Drink
b. build some Sand castles
c."people watch"
d. beach VB
e.maybe snorkel and rent a kayak/little boat thingy.
f. float around in the ocean/pools

What are some other Ideas you guys got......

Which AI resort are you staying at? Have been to Mexico about 25 times. Many times to Cancun and also Playa del Carmen.

As far as activities off the resort, that kind of depends where your AI resort is located. Many can be pretty remote and it can cost $20 or more one way for a Taxi to take you to either Playa or to Cancun.

Good advice on taking collectivos as they are a cheap form of transportation. But many times AI resorts are more than a mile or two from the highway, so it would be a long, long walk to get to the highway and catch the collectivo to where you are going. And you would definitely need to know where you were going and what you would need to do.

The BEST advice I can give is to give you the websites of Playa del Carmen info and also Reviews of Hotels, Flights and Vacation Rentals - TripAdvisor These will give you a wealth of information about the area and also reviews on the AI resort you have chosen.

Good luck. If you have any questions I will try to help or direct you to where you might get answers for your questions.

no kidding. who the hell would take toddlers to a beach in MEXICO?

I know people who have. But IMO, if you have someone the kids can stay with and you can go alone with your spouse the vacation will be more enjoyable for all.

Big Resort. Nice Beach. Xpu Ha Beach. Some people I have known have done a couple of the excursions involving swimming and snorkeling in Cenotes (underground caves and rivers) and doing ziplines as well. XPLOR.........I believe.

Sometimes the resort has a free shuttle to Playa del Carmen, which you might take advantage of for a little shopping and seeing the town of Playa.

A week seems like a long time. But it really isn't. In reality you have about 6 days. Pick out one or two things you might want to do at the most. And there are a lot of included activities in your AI package in all likelihood. Enjoy.

Make sure the security team you are surely bringing is well fed!

Have a co worker from Mexico. She goes back there every year to visit family. She; for the first year is not going to go down there due to all the violence. I asked her is it in islolated areas? We all know most cities have some areas that you just don't go; but the rest is fine. Her response is that it is everywhere now.

1.Call grandparents and leave toddlers at home.
2.Then start this thread over.

You will see a substantial improvement in ideas.

THIS. The ONLY thing that you're going to be doing is chasing the kids around the beach and trying to keep them out of trouble. You'll struggle to find things to do to keep them entertained outside of a DVD at the hotel. And you won't be able to drink until they go to bed...which by that time you'll be too tired to do much.

I would seriously reconsider taking toddlers to Mexico without some sort of babysitter/nanny/grandparent coming along.

Went to that area last February. See a lot of Canadian families that time of year ( I hear Canada can be quite unlivable in Feb.). Grandpa and Grandma ride herd on grandkids while the young adults actually get some vacation down time. We raised 3 kids and we did not take extended trips until they were 5+ and could entertain themselves and also understood what the word "no" meant. You will need 2 weeks to recover when you get home if you spend a week vacation with todlers. Keep in mind that you will be constantly on security alert watching them in an unfamiliar setting and particularly if you go off the resort "into town". No matter what anyone says "in town" in Mexico is an uneasy situation and particlarly if you are riding herd on young children.

THIS !
The only things they can do are probably watching the parade and going to "Small World".
It's the "competitive spirit" that drive people to do dumb things :) After we went to Europe for 3 weeks couple of years ago, a couple we know crowed in front of everyone almost everytime we saw them that they would go to Europe the following Spring. 3 Springs later, they haven't stepped their feet in Europe

Good stuff here. Also check out Xi-ala (chi-hala). Its a brakish water snorkling trip nearby that is pretty amazing for all ages. The resort will have tours to it by bus. Do not take a cab. They're simply not trustworthy anymore there.

Actually it is Xel-Ha. Very nice place. Another place is Xcaret. I actually stay in the town of Playa del Carmen on the beach in an 18 room hotel with the beach mere steps from my room. Playa del Carmen is very safe. We do have a security guard at our hotel and it has beach only access so it is very easy to keep secure.

As far as cabs, I have had no issues with them. They will try to scam you and get more money out of you if you let them. Agree on the fare ahead of time and know the fares and what they should charge from the websites I have given. I have taken the collectivos before as well. Very cheap transportation. But have only used them during daylight hours. I am leery of being out on any highway at night where you are picked up and dropped off along a highway.

Much of the violence that you see is along the border towns. It really is not in the tourist areas. But a person still needs to use their head. Common sense and some precaution is always advised. Being drunk out of your mind in a strange location at 3 am will likely get you in trouble no matter whether you are in the USA or Mexico.

Some people really need to get over their fears. I suppose it could be dangerous if you go to Mexico City, but the Cancun and Playa areas are thier cash cows, they are going to protect that.

Just because someone told you a story of violence, doesn't mean it's dangerous. I bet you could find the same violence within a 40 mile radius of where you live now.

Thanks for letting us all know you're going on vacation to a resort in Mexico. We're impressed. Hardly anyone does that. Very original.

It's a beach. You do what everyone does on every beach.
