I think these have been the most influential

1. Eustachy being fired

2.Jamie Pollard being hired as athletic director

3. Tim Floyd coming to Iowa State

4. Jamaal Tinsley and Marcus Fizer

5. McDermott being named as Head Coach

6. Didn't actually happen but what would have happened if fizer stayed for his senior year

I've always thought $6 would have been a huge deal. We would likely have been preseason #1 in 00-01 after finishing 3rd in 2000. We might have followed through on it too.

1. Tim Floyd (he directly influences most of the rest of the list)

2. Marcus Fizer (give props to Klay Edwards to getting him to love working out)

3. Jamaal Tinsley

4. Larry having a little too much fun, and the ensuing coaching search circus.

5. McDermott being hired.

1. Recruiting New Yorker Jamaal "Smooth" Tinsley - needed extra piece to ever win the Big 12

2. Floyd leaving for Bulls and recommending Idahoan Eustachy.

3. Eustachy partying every opportunity at the frats and allowing a defaul for Wayne Morgan.

4. Tim Floyd knowing about Louisianan Marcus Fizer relative.

5. Recruiting Brooklynite Blue Collar Stinson and Bostonian Will Blalock.

6. Hiring Jamie Pollard leading to some quick changes. (Jury is still out.)

7. Queensite Rashon in Charge who gracefully stayed. (Jury is TBD.)

8. McDermott finding five recruits willing to play his style after asking for the job. (Jury is now in session.)

9. Losing Stinnett, Blalock, Stinson, Taggart, Evanoich, et al. (Jury has not returned the verdict.)

I rated the last 4 lower because we will have to wait to find out from the cyclone fantatic jury.

I would say Johnny Orr leaving so we could get Tim Floyd set the whole thing in motion foir the past five years.

1- Tim Floyd coming to Ames
2- Jamie Pollard seeing the need to change directions (i.e. Greg McDermott and Hilton upgrades)
3- Jamal Tinsley adding the missing piece to the Big XII championship runs.
4- Larry Eustachy fired, allowing a program that was underperforming to change directions.
5- Morgan, Stinson, & Blalock finishing second in the NIT getting the program some much needed momentem no matter how short lived.

Marcus Fizer not coming back for his senior year was, in my mind, very influential. Probably would have been preseason ranked at least top 5, possibly national champions that year. BVD not getting a top notch replacement for Eustachy is the main reason we are where we are today. I look for GMac to get us back on top again.
