Since you're into sci-fi, I recommend the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson. Cool science and interesting looks at philosophy and politics.

If you haven't checked out Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead, then they are a must for any sci-fi reader.

Definitely Ender's Game, but you can't leave out Ender's Shadow, which is basically the same story, told by Bean, Ender's buddy.

Other Sci-Fi authors I really enjoy are James Alan Gardner (Expendable and others), David Brin (The Postman, Uplift Wars series) and Larry Niven & Jerry Pournelle combo. The latter pair has some really interesting reads with Inferno, Footfall, Lucifer's Hammer, The Mote in Gods Eye, The Legacy of Heorot, as wells as the sequels.

This Time Is Different: Eight Centuries of Financial Folly by Reinhart & Rogoff
The End Game by John Mauldin
The Forgotten Man (can't remember the author's name)

All outstanding books about what has led this country into the mess we're currently in and what you can do to minimize the damage to you on a personal level.

Thanks! Now on the Kindle Wish list!

I finished The Passage by Justin Cronin while I was in Colorado. Its a 2lb door stop, but it was a fantastic read!

Just finished this on vacation last week also. Good vacation book read. I would recommend it, but it has some ridiculous plot holes, so you need to suspend your sense of critical thinking to really enjoy it. Will make a good movie.

Also finished Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer. Fun, easy read. Just saw they are already working on the movie.

Devil in the White City referenced below was very good. Have not seen the movie, but read Lincoln Lawyer and liked it.

I had gone probably 8 years without reading anything besides a newspaper, and the Davinci Code got me started up again. Read all of Dan Brown's books and love them. Also got into Grisham books. Davinci code is what got me started again though.

I think a lot of these holes or questions will be answered in the next book.

I've been reading a SF series by author EE Knight, called Vampire Earth. I'm on the 3rd book. The premise is the Earth has been taken over by an alien race that were the basis of vampire legends of old. There is a human rebel force that fights back using guerrilla (sp) tactics and covert actions. Lot of midwest territory mentioned. Very action packed with well-concieved plots. Real page turners.

Two books into the Game of Thrones series. Man. So. Many. Pages. But that is a good thing. I also saw that he's just written another one for the series.

That is the best series I have ever read. And good news for you, the 3rd one is the best in my opinion.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fun read.
The Star Wars Fate of the Jedi Series is pretty good if you're into Star Wars.
I'm two books into the Game of Thrones Series, I think I'll save the 3rd one for my next trip to China, I need something to do for 14 hours on the plane.

Didn't read through the whole thread so somebody might have suggested it..but Why We Suck by Denis Leary is a book that i found hilarious. He baisically wrote a comedy book pointing out everything that's wrong with us as American people.

Just a few of my favorites:
LOTR
Without Remorse - the best Tom Clancy book in my opinion, just utterly bad-ace.
The Count of Monte Cristo
The Mitch Rapp series by Vince Flynn
Most of the Bob Lee Swagger series by Stephen Hunter
Song of Ice and Fire series by George R. R. Martin (just read this series this spring and it's fantastic)
Once A Runner by John L. Parker, Jr. - makes me want to go out and run every time I read it
Player Piano or anything by Vonnegut.

Just read The Hunger Games trilogy in the last 4 days, it was a good, quick, and easy read.

Hunt for Red October is good. I'm gearing up to read The Lincoln Lawyer in a day or two (have to finish Black Hawk Down first, also a good read, even if it's non-fiction). I've heard it's way better than the movie, and the movie was one of the best I've seen in some time.
