I dont know if anyone else has noticed this but can the people that run a the Iowa Events Center ever schedule concerts on a weekend night? Oh yeah can we also ever gets some non-country act in this city really need some diversity.

Not that I'd go to Rascal Flatts or Toby Keith maybe Slipnot but man all these concerts are on Sun, Tues, Wed...seriously pathetic. I really cant recall the last time Des Moines had a good big venue concert on a Friday or Saturday night. end rant.

Well.............the venue has nothing to do with that. The big bands are on their way to big cities. They happen to pass by Des Moines and schedule the show on their way through.

Yup, big cities get the weekends, we are just a pass through town... I dont think there are a whole lot of acts touring that are able to fill a place like the Well that aren't country bands these days...

Bingo. Why play Friday night in Des Moines and get 15,000 when you can play Friday night in Chicago/Minneapolis/St. Louis/Kansas City/Omaha and get 25,000?

I am sure the arena would also like to have shows on prime nights. The main thing they make money off of is beverage sales. I would think people would be more willing to drink up on Friday or Saturday night compared to a Sunday night.

As stated by cys_av8r we are just a stopping point that gets put on the map once the major cities are booked.

Side note from last night---Jessica Simpson is the worst performer that my eyes have ever seen. If she wasn't pouring out of her dress, I would have booed her off stage. End rant

Also, the Chops/Energy/Barnstormers schedule comes out before concerts are booked. The Rascal Flatts concert last night was really good! Slipknot, Motley Crue, Nickelback will be there in the next couple months. There are also some concerts coming that have not been publically released; one in April is not my type of music, but maybe it will suit you...

Add: There is one concert coming that I'm not sure why they are playing the Arena...no way it will get filled. It should be held at the Val-Air.

Example Toby Keith is playing Rockford, IL Saturday 2/21/09; Des Moines, IA Sunday 2/22/09. Nothing week before or after those dates.

Just saying that concert would bring in a lot more people and concessions if it were on a friday night

How do you dump a professional sports game when it was scheduled far in advance? :skeptical:

I don't know but I know that the hockey and basketball games are horrible, and use the word professional loosely.

I just want to see a good concert on a Fri/Sat night with out driving to MPLS/KC/CHI

I tell my friends this all the time. Some of the best concerts I have been to have been at Val-Air Ballroom.
Me too. Yellowcard/Blue October. Wow.

I think some bands like to play it cause it's kind of quaint- takes them back to some of their early days. Plus it's always a good time with a good crowd
