I ran across this petition earlier this morning, and I urge everyone who doesn't like the shorter games to sign this. Granted, our triple overtime extravaganza wasn't the shortest game in the world, but that still shouldn't stop you from signing up! They keep track of how many people from the different schools, and right now, Iowa State is only at 25. Keep signing up!

Just added my signature. It really bothers me that they are taking plays out of the game with this rule. I haven't heard any fans complain there are too many plays in a game. This all about tv scheduling

Up to #63. I completely agree......why take plays out of the game, and I especially don't like the clock starting on the kick. If time is almost out, then you either have to run one back or lose. At least before you could down it right away and get a play ran. Maybe this way they can pack more commercials into the time that they free up.

I don't like the rule changes either, and everyone here is right about it being changed due to pressure from the TV Broadcast stations. It's B.S. in my opinion. Nothing was wrong with the old rules. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Silly Rule

Whoever thought this rule up should get shot. They tried to do a simple thing & made it complicated!

I have no problem with them trying to speed up the game, but IMO to start the clock on the change of possession is STUPID! I have less of a problem with them starting the clock when a kicker or punter contacts the ball.

IMO if they want to speed up the game don't stop the clock when a player goes out-of-bounds with more than 5 minutes on the clock in each half. I also think they should have shortened the clock between plays by about 5 seconds to keep the # of plays up. The other thing they could have done(like the NFL) is keep the clock running on 1st downs.

They lowered the tee this year on kickoff to give each team better field position on each drive and to make the game more exciting, in essence, they did this to make the scores higher. If that was a priority in the tee decision, why should they do something to make the game shorter with essentially less scoring. I dont think it makes sense.

BTW, I was #87!

Get rid of the commercials on TV and that will make it go faster. Nothing worse than being at the game and having to wait for damn commericals:no6xn:

I wonder how many games would be televised if the networks couldn't sell ads for the games they are covering?

Commercials are necessary to get games televised, but sometimes it gets ridiculous. Commercial breaks also take away from momentum that teams get when they get on a roll. They get a blocked punt or something to get the ball back, the crowd gets into it, and then you have a 5 minute commercial break. Sucks.

Yeah I realize that Networks have to get paid (by commercials) but like you said they always come at bad points of the game and can screw up a teams mo jo. Just sucks as a Fan in the Stands, commercials seem to take for ever.
