Key Storylines

Did Someone Say Freshmen?

  • Iowa State and California are the only two schools to start three freshmen this season.
FOR THREEE!

Cowgirls perspective from okstate.com:

What 2 Watch 4
• Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will put its six-game winning streak on the line when it travels to Iowa State for a 6:30 p.m. contest on Wednesday.
• OSU's margin of victory during its current string is +17.2.
• The Cowgirls will be looking to start 6-0 in league play for the first time since the 1992-93 campaign.
Natasha Mack ranks second nationally with her 4.3 blocked shots per game and is tops with her 47 blocks.
• As a team, the Cowgirls rank first nationally with their 82 blocks. OSU is also second in blocks per game at 7.5.
• Mack has tallied 143 blocks during her career. She currently holds the No. 4 spot on the school's all-time list and is 11 away from reaching the No. 3 spot.
• Her total ranks 16th among active career leaders nationally. Her 143 blocks have come in just 38 games, which are 35 games less than any player ranked in the top 15.
• Her 122 rebounds are the fourth-best total in the country.
• In two games against TCU last week, freshman Taylen Collins hit 10 of her 11 shots (91 percent).

OSU vs. Iowa State ... The Series
• OSU leads the overall series, 36-32, but has lost four in a row and six of the last seven against the Cyclones.
• Iowa State has won the last two meetings in Ames with OSU's last road win coming on Feb. 19, 2018.

Scouting The Cyclones
• Iowa State moved to 3-1 in league play with a 99-72 win at Texas Tech on Sunday.
• Ashley Joens paces the Big 12 with her 23.9 points per outing, while Emily Ryan is first at 6.5 assists per game.
• The Cyclones lead the league in free-throw percentage (83.6 percent) and 3-point field goals made per game at 9.7 per contest.

Last Time Out
• OSU knocked off TCU for the second consecutive game on Saturday afternoon.

Does anyone know how to properly pronounce Kylie's last name? I have heard announcers go back and forth between FUR-bok and FEWER-bok, even within the same game.

Bored Guy Pre-game Musings:

The Cowgirls are off to a 5-0 start in this Covid disrupted Big 12 schedule. Their Big 12 opponents are a combined 4-19 (counting TCU’s 0-5 twice for 0-10) in league play. We are 3-1 against a Big 12 slate of teams that are 3-12 in league play. Nine games played in league by tonight’s two teams and seven have been against the bottom four of the league. Both squads have feasted on the bottom teams like they should. I’d call their 5-0 and our 3-1 sort of a push for comparing at this quarter way point.

OSU doesn’t hit the toughest part of their schedule till next month. We will hit ours in the next couple of weeks with Baylor twice (maybe) and Texas before the end of the month. This is a relatively big game for us IMHO (defend home court) and maybe even bigger depending on how this month turns out for us and next month turns out for the Cowgirls as far as who finishes above who.

Skewed a little by who we’ve both played but ISU is #1 in Big 12 games in offense and OSU is #2 in defense. Ryan is leading the league in assists per game with an impressive 8.0 in league game. Joens is first scoring at 22.0 OSU's Mack is 3rd in scoring, 1st in boards and 1st in blocks.

Whether Scott can play or not is, of course, the big wildcard at gametime tonight. If Scott is able to play and play all of her usual minutes I like the Cyclones to win this being at home and all. If Scott is unable to go it’s going to be way tougher sledding. Mack has been very good in Big 12 play, player of the week last week with a triple double and averaging 18.6 pts 11.0 reb 5.6 blocks 2.8 ast. Play in the paint is going to be interesting.

Will Izzi be available?
No. Still going through some COVID protocols, etc. And even if good with that, not counting on any real contribution this year. Mainly just wanted to get her to campus due to inactivity of any sports in Canada.

Kane banking in a three is probably a sign from the basketball gods that it is our game to lose at this point. :D

Playing our tempo and we are hitting threes, looking pretty good.

I missed the whole first half, was talking with my mom. Should I start listening or just stay away?

This team plays a fun brand of ball. Good passing and shooting always makes it easier to watch. They have a high ceiling this season and are set up for a few good years with this roster. Donarski's shooting form is perfect.

Noah W. just said the team is headed to the locker room at the end of the third quarter. Sigh.
BTW, who is Brett Cooper?
