Neptunes are crap. There was a class action lawsuit several years ago, because of so many people having terrible problems with mold growing in the machine. Of course I found out about it after the deadline and just had to junk our POS Neptune. That was alot of $$$ down the drain. I will never buy Maytag again...or whatever their new name is.

I've got a LG front loader now. It works great. You can get some decent deals at Home Depot for not only LGs but all the other brands...I think our's were 10% off, free delivery/haul away, and like a year or 2 of no interest.

Also WRT the sock issue...it's fairly common in alot of machines. Especially if they are little kid size socks. They are just small enough to get sucked up with the water going out. If you put them in one of those mesh washing bags, you'll be ok.

bingo!! the mesh bags will save you a $100 service call when your washer won't drain. just be sure to watch the repair person so you don't have to call them again.

I second the LG front loader recomendation. We have a washer and dryer. Love them both.

We got even a better deal a couple of years ago on our LG from Home Depot. They had a special weekend sale with 10% off from the factory and another 10% off from the store. Their system kept deducting one of the discounts on only the washer, but not the dryer. The manager could not get things straightened out and ended up giving us a 3rd 10% discount off of the total bill. We couldn't sign the papers fast enough at that time. Both units have worked great.

If you haven't already purchased. Lowes is having a big sale on
Whirlpool Duet Sport washer (WFW8300SW) and matching electric dryer pair for $998.

I think the washer alone used to cost over $800.

I just purchased a set of Duets and love them. I would say that LG is the best, however there is a nastly little secret that most sales folks will not share about LG. Prior to purchasing an LG appliance (any kind) see if they have certified repair reps in your area. I found out from several folks that a factory certified LG person may take up to three weeks to get to your house for the repair. I live around Chicago and was astonished to find out that we were in the 2 weeks out circle. The issue is that they are such a new brand in the US, they do not have the sservice network that others do. So, make sure to check that out if you are considering any LG appliance. They are great, but come with drawbacks...
