Does anyone have them? I listen to a lot of Clark Howard, and he recommends paying the full price for the phone with them and getting their cheap plans. I don't really know much about them though. For those that have them, are you happy with them overall?

They are a Sprint reseller, so you are basically on the Sprint network. I only use them for mobile WIFI access while traveling, I do not use them for cell phone service. For mobile WIFI access they aren't too bad for the price, $40 per month with unlimited downloads and no contract, just pay for when we use it.

aauumm is right, Virgin is on the Sprint network. I have a 300 minute monthly talk plan with unlimited text and data for $25/month. Unfortunately I have the unbelievably crappy LG Optimus V phone, which is the worst POS in the history of mankind. Saving up for something better -- they sell the iPhone now, but they're pretty steep IMO.

Virgin coverage is a little spotty north of Ankeny, but is great in downtown DSM. Never had a coverage problem while on the interstates.

Do you have to buy the phone through them, or can I buy a used iPhone on ebay? Also, would this be a bad service for me since I live in Ames?

Have you checked out Ting? They also are a Sprint
mvno but they roam on the Verizon network. I use primarily wifi for data and my bill with 1000 minutes and 1000 texts rruns about $33 a month. If you go over they bump you into the next tier-no penalty if you go under they LOWER your bbill Love emso far.

Unfortunately, that plan is $35 now for new customers. I have the same plan (and same phone) and am grandfathered in at $25.

I like the Optimus V fine. I have it rooted so I can run link2sd and install most apps entirely on the SD card. Otherwise, the Optimus V really doesn't have enough space for many apps.

After doing a lot of research, I've decided to go with Virgin. To the current Virgin mobile customers, is there any reason I should not do this? Also, when they say $35 a month, is it actually that or right around that? My first phone I had the contract was suppose to be for $40 a month, but it ended up being closer to $60 with all the various fees they tacked on

I have Virgin Mobile. Cell phone service is getting what you pay for, as well as a love-hate relationship. I have the $35 a month plan ($36-$37 a month with taxes,) and I love not having to pay an arm and a leg for my service, but sometimes the coverage makes me hate it.

Living in Ames, I never have a problem with cover and is great in DSM as fwiw said, but when I'm in towns like Huxley, coverage gets spotty or non-existent like when I'm in Roland.

Don't go with one of the lower-priced phones. I bought the LG Optimus Elite back in December when I joined Virgin. It was my first ever smartphone, and it's a good starter smartphone, but I've had it for six months, and I was ready to upgrade it four months ago.

Overall, I'm happy with Virgin Mobile, and I would recommend it.
