What are some of your favorite VEISHEA displays/activities by student organizations that you have seen throughout the years. Our group, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, is trying to think of something that will help us stand out and get some interest.

Do they bring the little tornado out to "play" from Howe? That should be cool....

Couldn't you guys build some kind of faux manufacturing line that would be visually attractive and interactive for the kids? You could build widgets, or whatever....

Isn't that Aerospace Eng?

Yes it is, but it's an example of a "good" Veishea display.

I used to do event marketing (I know, I know...) and the most important thing is to have something at your display that "does" something, that is at least marginally related to what your interest "does".

I'm assuming a manufacturing engineer develops tools, processes and machinery that assists in the efficient manufacturing of products, no?

So find a way to distill the essence of what you do, make it small and portable enough to put out in the public eye, and let people see and touch it.

I'm visualizing some kind of faux manufacturing plant where simplified ingredients go in one end, and they are assembled into something that a kid can take with them at the other end as a toy. But it cannot be too "child-like" because it also needs to capture the attention of adults, as well.

Or perhaps a miniaturized representation of a real assembly line, complete with robot arms and LEDs simulating automated welding machines, kind of like a doll-house for geeks, if you will. I think something like that would engage me, and possibly my incoming freshmen daughter who wants to be an engineer as well for over an hour, at least. Make it as realistic and detailed as possible, and include a computer screen that gives you a guided tour of the "plant".

Make it nice, and portable enough to be used more than just at Veishea.

But I'm just hip-shooting, here...

The best part of VIESHA is the how the image of Cy gets destroyed when college kids with no art skills attempt to create the figure then it gets displayed on Lincoln Way or their front lawn to for the world to see.

That and the fact that the frats throw together their lawn displays at the last minute all while half drunk. Good times.

First of all, lawn displays are done during homecoming, not VEISHEA. Secondly, people put a lot of time and money into building nice floats for VEISHEA and lawn displays for Homecoming. Rarely are people drunk when building them. Do some research before jumping into stereotypes ok?

Also, where is the creativity from the independent students? Where is their submission to VEISHEA and Homecoming?

When I was a kid, I always liked the tanks, huey helicopter, and other military equipment. Can you get any of those?

The independent students are working their butts off to pay the bills. I can't remember a VEISHEA that I had a Saturday off, let alone evenings to work on a float. :skeptical:

Are those mean old rich greek boys still getting under a few of your skins. Sniff Sniff. Poor babies. I lived in the dorms 4 years and they never did anything to ruin my life. What did they do to all of you guys? Stereotypes abound on this thread.

No one is under my skin. I just stated a fact.

Don't make me trot out the stereotypes about dormies...
