VEISHEA bands announced

There is no Big & Rich and no Flo-Rida. I don't really know of any of these bands but the following link shows the people that are performing.

VEISHEA 2008

You have to pay $5.00 to get into the event and only 7,000 tickets are going to be sold to ISU students, faculty, alumni, and staff only.

By only allowing students to go to this, that's just going to result in a lot of people staying away from the actual event and result in more partying and arrests. How many students are there that doesn't have a friend that are coming to town for Veishea? Awful idea. Hopefully there's not a riot.

You guys are totally ignoring the Battle of the Bands, which is usually better than the headlining acts anyway. I highly suggest checking out a band called The Blend, they're from Minneapolis, and they're pretty high quality.

Free comedy act is John Oliver (The Daily Show) Friday at C.Y. Stephens. It didn't say what time though, hopefully it won't overlap too much w/ battle of the bands.

What safety concerns were taken in account with the move??? Most of the crap that went on last year was the fault of a certain hip hop headliner and the only other thing I can recall happening was a beer can thrown at the Chris Caegal concert.

And yes, this will just lead to more drinking off-campus and now apparently Stars Over VEISHEA is only open to students. Why do I get the feeling the City of Ames is involved???

EDIT: After more closely reading the announcement, ISU students will be able to buy a wrist band for a friend after Thursday if any of the 7,000 remain.

Am I the only one that thinks there was way more then 7,000 people on campus last year for the concerts? If the number is a concern, that is stupid. I attend county fair concerts with 25,000 packed into an even smaller space.

Sounds to me like they're keeping people away, it costs the students more, and we're getting a worse product.

I understand they're probably really held back with a tight budget this year, but this does not seem good at all.

only 7000 people allowed at the concerts and it is limited to ISU students, that is lame. First of all the band line up is not one that is appealing to any college age student unless they are stuck in the 90's. And being a student here at ISU i always have a group of friends come from other states that look forward to VEISHEA and now they will not be able to go to the concerts and that will lead to more boozing off campus. I am not excited for the oncampus activities this year
