4runners have 3rd seats available, loved mine but you Lise some cargo in it relative to other vehicles. Great reliability and function though.

Good point. I was thinking about that this morning. Forgot to put down this info.

We prefer an SUV. We are thinking $8000 - $10,000. We are looking used.

So far everyone has given great advice, that's what I love about this site.

Thanks again.

See that makes a big difference. I think in that price range you need to stick with domestics. Any Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc SUV that's priced at 8-10K is going to have a TON of miles.

You may want to think twice about getting rid of that Camry...

If I do a quick search on cars.com for all SUV's with less than 100K miles and in the $6-$11K range.

1 Hyundai
2 Mazda's (really just fords escapes with a different badge)
3 Mitisbushi (no more reliable than a domestic)
1 Toyota's RAV4 w/89K miles and 10 years old
Bunch of Kia's-I won't give my opinion on

Keep the Camry.

Out of everything listed on cars.com in that price range I'd probably go the Saturn Vue route. They are not worth a lot because Saturn has went under but they are a pretty decent little SUV. There are some other cheap cars on there from "imperial motors", which scares me a little.

We bought a Ford Explorer with the 3rd row seating. Haven't had any probs so far. The room is great. We have 2 kids, and are always the parents who take extra kids to practices, games etc. Always seem to have plenty of room.

Good stuff. We are keeping the Camry. We currently only have one car. We just want something bigger as well.

I have an Expedition and it is a great vehicle. When we trade, we'll get a Suburban. I'd go with one of those vehicles.

Hey fellow CF'ers, need any advice you have on a good used SUV for my wife and I. We have one child so far but want something bigger than our camry. We have been looking at a Chrysler Pacifica at Nissan but thought if anybody would have good advice, it would be CF.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.
If you buy a Pacifica you may as well call and make your standing reservation at the repair shop now.

Buy a Ford, Nissan, Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Hyundai or Mazda (or the luxury lines of any of those). Anything else and you're playing "Reliability Russian Roulette."

Ford Taurus X. Took the place of the freestyle, has a bigger engine, a 3rd row seat, gets 24 mpg on the highway, and there is more room in the back than our Durango had. Not too many people know about them because the Flex took it's place, but it's a nice car with leather, sunroof, 6 disc cd with satellite, and we got it for a little over 21,000.

We have a Freestyle and my wife loves it. Plenty of room on the inside without being that huge of a vehicle. The third row is actually usable and still have decent space behind the third seat. And it gets great mileage. We got ours for around 17,000 and it still had plenty of warranty on it three years ago.

I did not know that they got rid of the Taurus X for the Flex. I wish they would keep that around.

My biggest piece of advice is do not do a lease at all. We paid less to buy our car when subtracting our trade in than our neighbors are going to pay to lease their van and we can put unlimited miles on it etc, we have put way more than 36000 miles on it in 3 years and it has many miles left to go. I always laugh when they have to park their van for a week at the end of each month because they try not to go over 1,000 miles each month. Plus an added bonus for us is after some savings and focus on it we got our car paid off after two years, all the miles from now on are free!!!!

IMO, If you're thinking of going the Pacifica route you may as well just go to a minivan.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? Are you making fun of me because my wife made me get a minivan? Not cool. I'm still a man.

If you make her drive while you sit in the back and watch movies and relax then it's all good!!!!! Kind of like having your own personal driver.

I don't know if I believe these ratings. I have to think the VW bug would be owned by mostly woman.

Forget the SUV, too over played. What you need is an old school, Chevy Conversion Van. May not get the best gas mileage, but you will (1) be instantly cooler than you currently are, (2) be beating away the DM southside strange, (3) have plenty of room for escapades with the wifey.

We always had a conversion van growing up for going on vacation and taking to ISU football and basketball games. Had a Chevy for awhile and then went to tricked out ford Econoline's. Man I love conversion vans. Best part about them as a kid is laying on the floor in front of the back couch and letting the hum of the road put you to sleep. Also the rope lights everywhere were pretty sweet too.

My cousin still has one to ferry his 4 kids. I know he was hating it when gas was at $4.00 per gallon.
