Some nice weight gains by Josh Johnson, Richard Bowens,Benton, Tongamoa. Some of the young O-line also lost some weight, probably "bad" weight.

Here's some notable, imho, weight changes (plus, minus) from the 2017 roster to the 2018 roster. Some good weight drops in there, too, a fan could argue.

Check out Kyle Kempt.

(Tried to space out the columns, didn't work. Don't know how to create a table.)

Chase Allen 6-7 240 +10
Spencer Benton 6-2 256 +9
Richard Bowens 6-0 194 +17
Sheldon Croney 5-11 213 +12

Sean Foster 6-8 312 +8
Robert Hudson 6-6 333 -17
Jamahl Johnson 6-0 302 -12

Josh Johnson 5-11 183 +12

Deshaunte Jones 5-10 185 +6
Keontae Jones 6-0 173 +10
Kyle Kempt 6-5 224 +14
Alex Kleinow 6-6 301 +22

Josh Knipfel 6-5 309 -8
Charlie Kolar 6-6 250 +12
Johnnie Lang 5-8 196 +7
Carson Lensing 6-4 267 +12

Chase Allen needs some more weight yet

At 240--even if it's all good weight-- he's still skinny at 6'7". Needs to be 250 by Sept 1 imo
Way better than his 220 last season though. We need a mauler out there at TE.

Huh? 6'7" 240 is plenty big especially if he's well put together. Need him to move and run fast as well...Arbitrarily throwing out a weight number doesn't make sense. Every bodytype and composition is different.

If you want a mauler, you have one in Soehner.

He's built like Allen Lazard and needs to be able to block Epanesa and some Big 12 D-Ends one on one. I'm not saying he can't play, but he needs weight to his frame to reach his potential. He's got NFL ability, but right now, he's thin and a liability in the run game.

He was 2nd team all big 12, primarily because of his blocking.

Thanks for the breakdown! A couple thoughts: I saw a picture of Kyle Kempt in the weight room this summer and he looked yoked. He's going to throw up a big **** you to the arm strength doubters.

Kamilo has looked really lean and his weight gain is surprising. That's more than likely good weight. It's also nice to see Lensing and Benton adding weight. Those two should continue to be really solid depth.

He’s going into his RS SO season.

Anyone concerned at all about our overall lack of overall size (both height and weight) across the LBers? I know we have some talent there, but wow, not much size. Maybe that's the plan though, I don't know? Does this staff want speed over size?

Willie Harvey LB 6-0 224 R-Sr. Hastings, Fla. / Menendez
Reggan Northrup LB 6-1 208 R-Sr. Jacksonville, Fla. / First Coast
Cordarrius Bailey LB 6-3 224 R-Fr. Clarksdale, Miss. / Clarksdale
Aaron Austin LB 5-11 205 R-So. Walnut, Calif. / Bishop Amat
Rory Walling LB 5-11 200 R-Fr. Des Moines, Iowa / East
O'Rien Vance LB 6-1 235 R-Fr. Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Washington
Jake Hummel LB 6-1 228 So. Des Moines, Iowa / Dowling Catholic
Zach Silbermann LB 6-0 226 R-So. Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston
Jared Gescheidler LB 6-1 233 R-Jr. Gilbert, Iowa / Gilbert
Marcel Spears Jr. LB 6-1 215 R-Jr. Olathe, Kan. / North
Tymar Sutton LB 5-10 222 R-So. McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport
Bobby McMillen III LB 6-2 230 R-Jr. Naperville, Ill. / Central
Jason Bowman LB 6-3 219 R-Sr. West Des Moines, Iowa / Dowling Catholic
Derek Greiner LB 5-11 229 R-Fr. Williamsburg, Iowa / Williamsburg

I agree. He seems lanky because he's 6'7", but his blocking is serviceable for the weight he's at.

This is an epically bad take. You should feel bad.

Across the board they're on the smaller size-definitely not Knott & Klein bodies. But in a pass happy league and with a different staff implementing a different scheme I'm not shocked.

What is there to be concerned about?

Two of the three LB spots are more about being able to run (as you eluded to). If you walk out there with three 240lb LB's in Big 12 play, you are going to get burned.

Harvey & Spears are all-conference LB's at 224 and 215, and the odds on favorite to win the MLB job is 235.

FWIW I don't believe several of the weights are updated for LB's. Either that, or Spears, Northrup, Sutton, Vance & McMillen are exactly the same size as last year.

I dont think all the weights are in yet...as for LB’s...they are fine..It’st he Big 12...I’d rather have a 215-220 LB LB that can hit and run like a RB then 250 LB linebacker that cant cover me.

I've seen 240 pounders hit like powder puffs and 215 pounders hit like freight trains. Coverage skills are VERY important against anyone in college football today. We need hard hitters and coverage skills.
