Not that terrible of a meet. ISU lost 25, 41, 49, 65, and 74 which they were underdogs in all of those. They lost a true tossup at heavy, and then won an upset at 84. Most disappointing to me was Mackall.

I don't understand all the doom and gloom. This meet went about as expected. UNI is better than us right now. No surprise. Like with most everything else this year, compare it to last year. Big improvement over last year's dual.

Onward and upward!

Knew it would be tough to go into West Gym on senior night and win. If Mackall doesn’t trip in the first, I think he wins that match. Parker would’ve beat alber if that was at Hilton, I like his chances in Tulsa. Degen needs to find a shot or move he can go to in the first. Waits too long to get going. Straw looked really good and is coming on strong at the end of the season. 165 is what it is. True freshman going before he’s ready against a top 12 wrestler. 174 man, Coleman is right there if he can put 7 minutes together. Goes back to consistency dresser talks about and that will come with age. Colbray had a hell of a match. He’s coming on strong. Miklus somewhat disappointing but still got a dominating win. Gremmel needs to escape. That was disappointing.

People underestimate how hard it is to wrestle at west gym. Overall I wasn’t disappointed with our guys effort, and knew we matched up poorly with UNI from the beginning. They’re a good program and have a good coach. We’re still very young and are basically a team full of sophomores and freshman. It will be nice to get UNI in Hilton next year after having to go there twice.

Final note. If we had to lose the toss ups, better here than in Tulsa in a couple weeks. Dresser will have these guys peaking at the right time and better to win tourney time than dual season

UNI won the close matches.

Coleman was going against a tough opponent, but I cringe when I see him lately against a ranked opponent when he is on the ground. Seems like nearfall or pin is next.

Mackall slips while going in for a shot early in the 1st and Schwarm capitalizes and gets a hard ride on. Might be a different match if Mackall doesn't slip.

We won 2 matches last year Simmons and St John. Had to forfeit 141 due to lack of depth. Could we have done better tonight yes , is it the end of the world , no. Parker and Gremmel were close to higher ranked wrestlers. Colbray continues to impress. Degen was Degen against a tough opponent . Straw continues to improve. This team is young . The future is still bright .

Looking ahead to next year, what does UNI return for a lineup and how would they match up with our expected lineup?

All they lose is Alber and Foster. Will probably get Holschlag back at 197 with Medical redshirt.

Steiert, Lujan, Thomsen and Holschlag are going to be high ranked next year.

While true that he slipped, I thought he had plenty of time to react after the slip, but he was kind of lacksadaisacal. Then, he go reversed trying to ride. Should have never tried to wrestle on the mat with him. Finally he hits 4 head inside singles and tries to finish coming out the back. Terrible position against Schwarm.

Reality is
125 - Schwarm on top was the concern and he got a lot of RT
133 - Needed bonus and Austin delivered
141 - knew it was going to be close and Alber a slight favorite
149 - Degen hasn't beat Thomsen yet. He has Degen figured out on their feet.
157 - Straw was a favorite and did. Coming on strong late in the season. Same as last year, but is it enough to get to Nationals
165 - Steiert is tough.
174 - Thought Coleman could keep it closer, but been struggling a bit lately. His motor doesn't seem to be there recently.
184 - Colbray is coming on strong, but didn't think he would get the win. Glad I was wrong
197 - Gordon wrestled conservatively and Miklus couldn't push enough to get bonus
Hwt - Always a battle. Thought Gremmel had it after the ride out

Good thing about the match was, now Mackall knows what to expect. I have a feeling this match outcome will be very different in the Big 12 tourney

I like the physicality that UNI wrestles with. We need to add some of that as those young guys mature. Hope KD has them hitting the weights hard this summer.

I don’t know how anyone can be satisfied with that performance even if we weren’t favorites at most the close weights. I bet KD isn’t happy.

We aren’t the tougher team yet.

Couple wrestlers came out flat. Thought Mackall would win that match. Got rode to much. Thought Parker could of pushed it a little more. Wished it could of made it to OT. Degen shoots once and gets a TD. Needs to be more offensive. Was impressed with Straw. Coleman had a nice blast double. Colbray was the bright spot. He’s wrestling so much better this year. Willie needs to push the action more. Gordon wasn’t going to do anything. He needed to do what Gomez did. Really thought Gremmel was going to get the win after riding Isley the whole 2nd period.

Thought ISU would bring more intensity tonight like they did against Iowa. Seems like theyre looking to far ahead to Sunday’s match.
