Story Co.
Would have loved to see a win my first time at West Gym but I'm not down on the team by any means. Two of the close losses go the other way, which they easily could have, and we walk out of a hostile environment with the W. There's a lot of hype around the team right now with the success this season and the 10k challenge but it's still year 2 of a major rebuild. We are way ahead of schedule considering where we were at a couple years ago. Unfortunately, casual fans who haven't been paying attention will jump on board with unrealistic expectations and spout off when they don't know what they're talking about. Comes with the territory I guess but still annoys me.

Keeping everything in perspective, last night was winnable but not a terrible loss. If we happen to lose on Sunday, it will be a bummer like any loss but not a major setback. Dresser is in this for the long haul and wants to build the program back up to where it belongs but that takes time and patience. The culture has definitely changed but that doesn't translate to being a top 5 team at the snap of a finger. I have no doubt we'll get to that level in due time. We've got the right coaching staff who just need the time to do what they do.

One last thing. UNI fans are really annoying. Can't wait to go back and hear what they have to say when we own them in that place in the next few years.

We could have close to this same lineup for 2 more years!!!
When you think about it for next year
125 - Mackal (RS Jr), Reeves (Fr), Corbanan (RFr)
133 - Gomez (RS So), Small (RJr), Ramadan (Fr)
141 - Parker (RS Jr), Leisure (RSo)
149 - Degen (RS Jr), Anderson (Fr)
157 - Carr (RS Fr), Straw (RSr)
165 - Schumacher (So)
174 - Coleman (RS So)
184 - Colbray (RS Jr), Broderson (Fr)
197 - Shapiro (RS Fr), Fisher (Sr in HS)
285 - Gremmel (RS Jr), Duggan (RFr)

We have close to 3 years of the same lineup!

Question:
Is Colbray a Junior or RSo?
Wrestlestat and Flo both have him as a junior.
Wasn't he the one that KJ started at 285 for one of the Dakota duals, then never wrestled the rest of the year?
If so, did he get his redshirt back?
Iowa State Athletics has him as a redshirt sophomore.

I wouldn't be surprised to Ramazan compete for the starting spot with Mackall IF he can make 125. I have been hearing very good things about him in the room. He has outrageous upside.

With that being said, we still need to add in a lot of pieces over the next 3 years. I'm hoping the transfer market is good for us for a couple of spots the next two years. We still need to upgrade in talent a lot.

Also, the plan is for Anderson to be at 141 from everything I've heard. Either way, that kid will be in the lineup his RSFR year, no doubt IMO

I agree about Anderson. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Reeves doesn’t end up the starter at 125 sometime his RSFR year. #1 rated kids get in the lineup pretty early nowadays. With his reported work ethic having part of this year and his redshirt year to improve, watch, learn get stronger etc his skills could grow immensely

Will be surprised if it isn't still Mackall. I like Reeves and think he's going to make the podium several times but he's #1 because, by and large, the other top ranked guys knocked each other off at big tournaments. Doesn't mean he isn't good, just that I think the #1 rating is suspect.

He was #1 because he beat Lucas Byrd, who is #1 at 120 right now.

Also beat Matt Ramos, Maxx Mayfield, and Julian Tagg, all nationally ranked kids.

He was ranked #1 because he beat the best kids in the nation.

Don't forget Parker will be a senior that year.

I don't think that's true. I don't think he faced any of the other top 5 or so guys at 126, which is where he was one ranked #1 by InterMat. Several of them faced each other at big tourneys like Beast of the East, Who's #1, Doc Buchannon, etc. That was my point.

He's really good and we are lucky to have him. Don't get me wrong. I was just focusing on the whole "#1 means he will be in the lineup right away" thing.

If he’s healthy and not better than Mackall, that is not good news for the future. Mackall is going just fine and he’s a significant upgrade over last year, but ISU needs Reeves to be a multiple high AA.
