I just gotta say how proud I am of this year's team, and the way the staff has them wrestling. Who would have thought w/ this many freshman, we could be going into Big XII's w/ the NO. 2 national rank?!

Obviously we are led by some key seniors, but cyclone fans, you have to feel good about this freshman group who has amassed a 141 - 45 record in matches. The future is bright!

Read this thread, http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5822, it should help you with who is being red-shirted this year. The Big names to look to make a big impact next year include Reader, and Sebolt.

There is also a HWT Justin Wren that is coming in as a freshman next year that in one word looks like a beast! There is also a link to his highlight videos on youtube in a different thread.

Wren and the two other freshmen from Iowa (can't think of the town) will be redshirted.

Both these guys won their districts on Saturday!
@ 119 Tyler Clark, 36-2
@ 160 Billy Lewis, 35-2

Both won their 3A opening round matches at the state tournament today, with Tyler Clark shocking the #1 seed, Dylan Carew of IC West (3-2).

Go future Cyclones!

Do they still have the finals on Saturday? I haven't been to the tournament since I was in high school but I'd like to see Clark and Lewis if they are still wrestling for a championship.

I believe that's the case, but you can track the fellas here to see if they make the finals:

Sorry, I'm not a huge wrestling fan; I was just checking the state tournament results because I know a few of the IC kids...

Wren would have to get through the current Heavyweight Zabriskie first. I could see Wren redshirting and getting acclimated to college life and D1 wrestling room.

Yea I would expect that Wren, Lewis, and Clark would all be red-shirted because we have no immediant openings in their weight classes.

It should be interesting because I dont know if Zabriskie would automatically be the heavyweight wrestler. Zabriskie is more of a hy-bred heavyweight but from what I have seen of Wren he seems like he could be a true heavyweight with bigger size than Zabriskie.

Clark beat Carew 2-1.
Lewis beat Drahozal 3-2.

Per iahsaa.org.

Dammit Drahozal...:growl5cj: I wanted to see him get further than opening round in the winners bracket. He was on my wrestling team in HS. Oh well, hopefully we can watch Lewis in the Finals on Saturday. PBS still live-broadcasts the finals, right?

No. If you live in Ames, it'll be on channel 9 (KCWI) with coverage starting at 5:30. Actual wrestling won't begin until after 6:00, I believe. The ISU-KU game starts at 5:00 on ESPN, so there's a fair chance the game will be out of reach by the time wrestling starts.
