Check out Bob Feller. Hard to be under the radar as one of the best pitchers in MLB history, but I believe he is one. Born in Van Meter. Incredible career that I'm not sure many realize.
Had he not lost all those years to two wars, he might have surpassed Cy Young. Threw mid-90s when the average fastball was low-80s.

Troy Aikman's grandmother lived in Denison.
I was going to post this too.

He used to come back about once a year in the offseason when the he and the Cowboys were elite and it was a huge deal. I don’t think he comes back anymore but there are a few Aikman’s around yet.

When I got my senior photos taken forever ago the photographer made sure to show me a family picture he took of the Aikman’s.

ISU fan favorite Nick Nurse is from Carroll. Comes back about once a year I think. The year he won the ‘ship with the Raptors he brought the Larry O’B with him.

Here is one that many people don’t know. The guy that plays the Wiz in Seinfeld, also known for Reno 911, Vegas Vacation, the Adventures of Pete and Pete, and a ton of other stuff is from marshalltown.
That’s awesome. I’m the wiz and nobody beats me!! Then struts around like a jackass. I’ve been known to pull this move off after 6 or 7 dozen drinks

Gacy lived in Waterloo for 3 years and was a member of Jaycees there. He later described these years as the "best of his life". It is also where he turned to sex with underage boys, unfortunately.
His house was 2716 Fairlane Ave, a couple blocks away from MercyOne (old Covenant hospital)
