Great read!

I'll be very interested in how she can interact with Crooks and Brown.

I wonder if we will see more of Crooks sealing the post to give an open lane?

Brown is a three-level scorer so I'm interested in the dynamic that will play out there, might have a lot of action under the arc?

If we have three under the arc, might be a good opportunity for our sharp shooters? Lots of possibilities here, so I will just pencil us in for the final four,

From what I have heard JW and AB played together on the same Mickey D's team and became friends. Addy was part of JW's reason for reaching out to ISU. In fact JW reached out to Addy to initiate the contact and start the transfer talk.

haha... that made me laugh. That is our entire offense. I do hope they do this, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
CBF will still let her dribble a lot before making the pass inside.

Yeah, we landed a player with speed and athleticism, a thing people have been complaining about all year. The offense wasn’t even the problem this year.
I agree that the defense needs work but we also need to avoid the single digit quarters, and 4 to 5 min. scoring droughts.

Yep. Having 2 McD All-Americans AND Audi Crooks should be a recipe for a top contender in the conference and a top 5 seed in the NCAA tournament.

Is the first time Bill has had two McD AA on the same team?
I’m not even sure what previous players may have been McDonalds all Americans. Anyone have answers? Hard to believe that Ashley Joens…the four time first team all stater and Miss Iowa Basketball wasn't even one.

Lexi Donarski in 2020 I believe was our first and only other McDonalds All-Star. People seem to forget she was in that game.

Others on that squad: Bueckers, Clark, Cameron Bink, Angel Reese, and Hailey Van Lith.

Edit: Looking at the previous sentence after I hit post and thought "Damn, that would be one hell of a team!"

I obviously did…it amazes me that some of the players we've had weren't selected. There are a bunch of crazy good resumes that weren't selected. Look at the bios of players like Joens, Welle and others.

Crooks "sealing the post"? Seriously, she looks robotic as a defensive player, told to cover a particular player, rarely leaves her position to help, etc. If anything was noticed from year one to two, was that there's no development. Her size allow her to score a boatload of easy buckets, which is great. But in exchange for that you get a lack of athletic ability, average at best free throw percentage, very stiff undeveloped defensive skills, lack of stamina, etc. There's pros and cons to every player and honestly, her one big PRO (her size in the paint) somewhat outweighs her cons. Just hoping we stop with forcing the ball into her constantly which brings on so many turnovers this past season.

Joens was probably close to making it, before Donarksi signed as an ESPN #14 Joens was our highest ranked HS recruit as a #26. Brown made it as #31.

I agree that she lacks athleticism as in speed. But whenever Crooks is up against a true post she more than holds her own. Last year she want toe to toe with Lee in each of their games and this year she held Prince to 0 points. My read of your post is that you believe we would be better without Crooks which I do not think is true.

Coach has two years to really do something with this trio. He and the staff need to show how they can evolve. So many of these players are now in Year 2 & 3, time for their individual growth as well. Can't wait to see what Joens, AJ, Williams, Brown, Harris, and Crooks can do. Hopefully the staff can add another Forward.

There were multiple occasions later in the season where she sealed off the defender to allow a drive by Ryan. I suspect with Williams in the fold and her quickness to the hoop, we will see more of this. Sealing off has nearly nothing to do with speed…it’s all positioning.
