Cool story alert: I actually worked at the North Grand Mall theater and got to work the door tearing tickets at the world premiere. I got to take Gov Branstad's ticket and met Helen Hunt's stunt double. Her stunt double! Told you it was a cool story.

Today I learned that a chunk of the movie Twister was filmed in central Iowa, specifically Ames. Hell, Ames had the World Premiere of Twister right here in our foreclosed North Grand Mall.

Does anyone know what was filmed in Ames? I found out what was filmed near Eldora (last scene) and Boone but I couldn't find what was filmed in Ames.

All that corn in Oklahoma never made sense.

The not-a-real-brand farm equipment they used for the Tornado to throw around was stored at the John Deere dealership in Hubbard. My cousin in law got a job as a security guard at night keeping people away from it.

Spielberg stayed at the guys who used to own Lucullans. Helen Hunt stayed in an empty house in Northridge. A lot of the crew stayed at the old Ramada Inn where Best Buy is now. That's what I have to add.

A friend of mine who used to work at Channel 5 was in cut scene that shot at the old channel 5 studios on campus (next to Molecular Biology, across from The Armory). They shot a scene where Bill Paxton was trying to do the weather, but kept screwing up and finally had to toss to Sonya Heitshusen (She was working at 5 at the time). My friend had scene with Jamie Gertz, where she comes in & says to him "He's doing real good, right?" He just nods at her and when she walks away, he turns to one of the cameramen & says 'Yeah right." He still gets a check every time it plays on TV.

Most of the movie was filmed near our friends in Stillwater.....Iowa was only needed for corn shots.
If I never hear Helen Hunt caw "get down", "move!", "go!" again, that will be OK.

It always ****** me off that they didn't just set the film here. Iowa is a major tornado state, and tied for the f5 lead. Would it kill Hollywood to acknowledge our existence more than once every 25 years?
