well I have a vizio plasma which has burn-in from ESPN :arghh:

Vizio didn't (and doesn't) make the greatest TVs in the world.

And there is a big difference from Plasmas from a few years ago and ones today.

I'm not saying it's a total non-issue, but it's pretty much a non-issue these days, especially if you turn down the brightness from the typical blowtorch setting it comes with from the factory (which you should do with any TV to get the proper colors).

Vizio = Poor

I have a 42" Samsung Plasma. Excellent Picture - I did have a problem where a board went out and had to ship it off for repair (2-3 weeks). It would have been a 700.00 to a 1000 dollar fix. So get the service plan or extended warrentee.

The size of the room will dictate the size of the TV. A small room will not accomodate a 50" TV. Make sure you take your room dimensions with you when you buy. For $2,000 get a good plasma or lcd TV and throw in the surround sound!! I think the LED TV's are still a little high.

I agree with this but I think people tend to get too small rather than too large. I rarely hear people say "I wish I would have gotten a smaller TV". Unless you're sitting closer than 6 feet from the TV, a 50" would be fine.

I have a 42 inch Panasonic Viera and love it. I'm pretty sure they make over 50 inch tvs for it. The only thing I don't like is the volume isn't booming, ut then again it's a TV's speaker. I should probably buy a system. I think most Viera's 50+ inches are Plasma though..mine is about the only 1080p that's NOT a Plasma.

My coworker just bought a 50 inch Samsung for $1700 on sale at Best Buy. It's Plasma, so I know you're dead set against it, but if you actually buy a quality Plasma, you aren't going to be screwed over. You were before because, well, you owned a Vizio and frankly Vizio's are mostly ****

I'm looking to buy a 50 in. or bigger.

1. I do not want a plasma because of burn in since I watch a lot of TV (TV is on for 16 hours a day.)

2. I do not want a rear projection TV because the lamps go out too quickly considering my TV is on 16 hours a day.

3. Basically, this is leaving me with the choice of an LCD TV or an LED backlit LCD TV

4. Need to have plenty of options and settings. I used to have a Sony WegaGate rear projection TV. The options and settings were wonderful. I liked that you could zoom in on widescreen DVDs and it didn't distort the picture.

I just am getting sick of DVD widescreen movies getting more wider. I hate seeing all the black on the top and bottom when I'm watching a movie. But then when they show the widescreen movie on HBO high definition channel, it has no black on the top and bottom.

5. Has to be able to live through a ton of hours of TV. Like I said above, the TV will probably be on 16 hours a day.

6. Needs to be a reasonable price considering I do not want to spend thousands of dollars. However, I do want high definition TV to look wonderful. And I want get options and settings.

Any help would be wonderful. If I'm forgetting anything I will add it later.
So you're saying your tv will be on 16 hours a day?

Is this thread a joke? I think you started it to see what kind of responses you get to your 16 hours a day claim. That means you sleep and watch tv. That's it. I don't buy it.

Maybe he leaves it on all night or something.

One thing I like about my new Samsung LCD in the bedroom is that it has a scheduler that will allow you to turn the TV on/off each night of the week at certain times. In the past I always had to use sleep timers. Now I just put in that I want it to shut down at a certain time m-f and a different time sat/sun.

It also allows you to choose what sound level to turn it on at during these times so you could use it as an alarm clock.
