I bought an undercover Ultra Flex hard fold up cover for my truck. I've had the soft versions before and they worked well also and are a lot cheaper. I just liked the look of the rigid top and the little extra security.
For me it was mostly for the look. After about 5 years, the cloth covers start to show their age. It was frustrating when the rest of the truck still looked brand new.
I think in the end you have to think about how much big hauling you will be doing. The roll up is easier to deal with, but my tri-fold is very easy to fold up out of the way. You can open it up from the entire bed, but have to stay under 40 mph. That isn't an issue since my hauling of large stuff is all local. And takes two seconds to fold back down and actually comes off easily if I had to remove it.
It is expensive though.
