I don't get the guys who do it until they're like 70+ years old. I'm sure the money is nice but head coach of a D1 team seems like such a stressful, life-consuming job. I'd retire at 55 and do whatever I wanted for the rest of my life with my ~unlimited money.

Bennett in the CBS article it was stated that the writer had been told by Bennett that he thought about retiring at the end of last season, and then the school gave him the contract extension and he decided to come back. His wife and him went away for the weekend, and he just knew that he was done, told the AD the next day, and she said to sleep on it and then go to practice and after sleeping on it and the practice the next day he knew he was done. He stated he wants to spend time with his parents and his family.

Nobody can tell a person when they are burnt out, you just have to trust your gut. Bennett has a net worth of $11 million, sure they have already built their dream house and their vacation home if they have one. Guy will get a nice pension most likely from the state of Virginia since he was at a public university.
If he thought he was through, and the couple of reports I read, that is what he is telling everyone, then good for him. I can only speak for myself, but I knew I was burnt out the last year I worked, and if had $11 million in wealth I would not have waited until age 61 to retire.

One article I read he was quoted as saying he has no problem with the players being paid, but that there are no rules, he suggested we need to have contracts and bind the player and the team.

He may just be done with it all.
A lotta rumors he was done after the tourney because he wasn't rushing to sign a new contract.

It's a grind now and player $ is a big part of it and he comes from a "coaching" family.
I have a lot more respect for this than the Coach K from Duke two year retirement tour. Don't have an issue with this.
