A different case but Cedar Rapids Police just announced the arrest of a person they believe killed an 18 year old woman 39 years ago tonight.
Put on your tinfoil hats.
I just caught an update on that case from my local news.
I wonder if they will explore any connection between this Jerry Lynn Burns guy indicted for the 1979 Cedar Rapids murder and the Huisentruit case.
It just struck me as incredibly odd that national media would air an episode about one cold missing persons case immediately before police pick up and charge somebody in another one. It's probably just a coincidence, but in the 48 Hours piece, the Mason City police chief made it sound like they had a bead on their suspect but not enough evidence. People are led to believe that points to Vancise, but what if they were watching to see how somebody else reacted to it?
Martinko was a young blonde girl who was apparently attacked in the dark at her car, just like Huisentruit. Burns left DNA at the scene of the 1979 murder that was recently matched through a DNA ancestry/profiling service that led to his arrest.
By the way, according to the Martinko Cold Case Facebook group, Burns apparently has a physically/mentally disabled cousin from Manchester who disappeared in 2013 on December 13, the same date as the Martinko murder, and has never been found. His wife died of an apparent suicide on June 29, 2008 and was cremated. Huisentruit disappeared on June 27. Creepy AF!
It's probably nothing.
