Exactly. Look what happened when we all thought Mangino was a homerun hire with tons of experience.

What does this tell you? People can hope in one hand and **** in the other. Reality is that it's a monumental task to turn around the Iowa State football program and anyone who honestly believes Matt Campbell is the guy that's going to do it is probably not being very realistic. As fans of course you hope that is the case, but there's a difference between hoping and being realistic.

Campbell won some at Toledo, but Toledo was arguably the best coaching job in the MAC with all of the talent they have around them in Ohio. Iowa State is a completely different story. Quite frankly, it probably doesn't matter who these assistants are that are being hired, but it certainly should raise some red flags when he's bringing in guys who have very little experience at this level. Especially when he himself has very little experience at this level. I mean maybe that's what is needed, but again there's that pesky reality to deal with.

this is a big hire for campbell and he must feel confident with it- i have a great feel from these guys and campbell specifically. he is bringing a confidence and winning culture that reassuring.
manning is up for OL coach of the year with his competition being some of the big boys of football. a great advantage for the OC as an OL coach is knowing all of the run blocking and pass pro schemes/blitz protection.

I was okay with it when our most recent POTUS was younger than me. But now our HFC and most of his staff are younger than all but one of our KIDS.

Gawd I feel old some days...at least Prohm is the same age as our oldest...

What was baby Jesus like in real life?

We've seen where nepotism has gotten us before with the two previous coaches....not doubting CMCs decisions, but some outside seasoned blood on the staff would make me a bit less concerned.

CPR also brought in an outsider and how did that end up? McFarland wasn't that bad of an OC. Mac hire Cotton and Fine from outside and how did they work out? In this case at least the HC is a Offense guy so he knows what is going on.

I'm seeing better talent than we've seen in years come in rather quickly, so if they can keep that up I think you are wrong. As far as coaches go, I like Campbell, and I'm talking about the coordinators following suit if they aren't quite ready yet. He's bringing in the talent he wants - and has succeeded with.

Well we're not competing with ISU teams of years' past. We're competing with other B12 schools. Go look at other B12 schools' recruiting classes and see if you think we can still get by on talent alone without quality coaching.

Manning seems like a rising star in the coaxing ranks. We weren't going to hold onto him long as an O-line coach. So I'm ok with this.

I look at this similar to evaluating people at my workplace. External hires for higher positions rarely work out well. Often times, the resume does not tell the story. I would much rather elevate a very talented young individual, who has quite honestly already been performing well above his title and does not have the "resume". Much better option than going and grabbing someone off the street who may have been "propped up" by those around him at the prior stop.

Elevate from within if you have the talent. It works.

Hey just gtfo

Sorry to rain on your parade, but it's not my fault if you aren't willing to face reality.

I think Campbell has about a 2 year window to capitalize on the current roster. I truly believe there's some talent on this Iowa State roster and if he can capitalize on it in his first couple years then that will give him an opportunity to build off of it and do something with the program. That's why this inexperience is a concern to me. I don't think this is a situation where there can be a learning curve. If he can't capitalize early then he may miss that window.

If this announcement is official, then it makes me wonder if Nick Sirianni will be the QBs coach.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Sirianni

Short summary:
Currently QBs coach for the San Diego Chargers. Has been on an NFL coaching staff since 2009. He's 34 and played at Mt. Union, which would have been the same time Campbell would have been there.

San Diego is probably going to make some coaching changes this off-season and this guy probably learned more from Philip Rivers than what he was actually coaching. That's a pretty decent selling point for recruiting college players.

Well, I for one choose to hope in one hand...it seems by your sour demeanor, you've chosen the **** in your hand route. Protip: next time don't poop in your hand, you won't be so grumpy.

That would be a good get.
