Camp starts in a month or so.

The sooner we can move on from these threads that will inevitably be taken down, the sooner we can get onto topics like 'tOSU just showed how easy it is to score with that 3 yard slant to Marvin Harrison Jr. that he took for 83 yards, WTF doesn't Scheelhasse call that!?'.

This is really the only social media I use. Way too many people use social media sites to

1) boost their ego or
2) make an opinion nobody asked for

To quote the late Denny Green: "You know what's great about America? Everybody's got an opinion, You know what else is great about America? You don't have to listen to them!"

And yes, the irony isn't lost on me that nobody asked for my opinion

Algorithms are intellectual property, if they have ex employees old computers and phones that's an issue as well. It also depends if said employees have non competes. Not up to date on California labor laws, but I know they are not a right to work state.
Non competes are largely unenforceable.

Andrew Downs talking about Bluesky right now on kxno. Said it's kind of sports orientated?
A lot of shady number boosting activities going on with bluesky.

I’m trying to wait on Mastadon, it will be interesting to see how many servers federate Threads. A reasonable worry is that Threads ends up controlling ActivityPub and corrupting it.

Well that is dependent on the state from what I understand, I have been wrong before though. I know in Iowa they are basically just a piece of paper.

In california too, which is most relevant here.

Any company that doesn't have an encryption and enforced machine policies shouldn't be in business. Every company that has done any sort of SOC or HITRUST certification - basically any tech company or business that uses technology - would have locked down the AD accounts and the machines would be useless as they'd be encrypted. Hell I work for a company of 160 and that's 101 level stuff.

The days of having a work computer that you can login to with admin rights in this line of work hasn't existed for a long time. And if they did allow that, they deserve to lose any intellectual rights those machines contained.

“Thread count” is a lot cooler than “followers” if that’s actually an official term.

I find it interesting that Reddit is the 6th most visited website in the United States but no one ever talks about it like the others.

Just messing around with Threads for ten minutes I don’t see how Twitter keeps from becoming a non free version of 4chan without major changes…changes that would simply be reverting to be more like it was years ago.

There are several work arounds to this, I would assume some of the people fired had to have admin rights. Plenty of twitter enemies out there.

If Twitter fired people but didn't suspend their accounts, they should no longer refer to themselves as a technology company.

I dont disagree, but again there are several ways of gaining access to information on a local PC. Should business critical information be on a local machine? No, but I have seen crazier things. Plenty of work arounds USB port blocking and file sharing.
