Supposedly the quote was taken way out of context. The reporter had asked what would happen if K-State's effort didn't improve for this game.

KSU is frustrating. They aren't that bad, so they can certainly beat good teams in this conference. On the other hand they can play very poorly and lose to almost anyone, hurting the conference.

This is the first year of them being really down. With that said, I can't believe how bad they are.

Exactly, and them being down is more a product of the somewhat high expectations that were put on them at the beginning of the year. It's hard to argue that they haven't overperformed in the past few seasons. It's amazing how short-sighted some people can be.
