Great article story, but, boy, that writer needs a proofreader....

I hope the season finishes well for her.

Great article. Pretty much sums up what many of us have watched through the years. Hope she does well down the road.

Nikki taking until her final season to get to this point in sort of a tragedy that may have a sort of good ending. As I said earlier, it would be nice to have her back one more season (as she will be better than any incoming guard) as much of her career was spent in contrast to her current ability.

It was also telling to me that Nikki's Mom did not seem to back the staff and the roles that had been given to her in previous years. When they talk about her numbers dropping a little her soph year that is also a team that had Pop, Prins and Hallie so she was not needed to score a bunch. If she was hearing from the family that she should be scoring more I would think that would not help the situation.

From reading the article it sounds like her mom was maybe a tad more interested in personal success than team success. Certainly it is natural for a parent to want their child to do well at any level and be recognized for those accomplishments. Can't fault her for that. But, one of the tenets of really good college programs is: "it's amazing what you (or a team) can accomplish when no one cares about who gets the credit".

It was obvious even as a freshman that she had talent. But, lots of kids coming in have talent or they wouldn't be there. Expecting to be the "Big Dog" the moment you arrive on campus is...well...maybe not giving enough credit to the players who got there 2 and 3 years ahead of you and have worked just as hard or maybe even harder than you have. If you are talented and can raise the level of accomplishment of those around you, then you can be exceptional. And, your team can be exceptional. JMO

I hope she has continued success the remainder of this year and as a professional.

Our last Elite Eight team we had Aus, Wieben, Anderson, Nisleit, etc. Ezell, Aus and Wieben had >10 ppg with Bolte and Nisleit at 9.4 and 8.8 ppg respectively. Don't forget they had Stuckey, Lightbourne, Ross etc. I don't think that team really cared who got the credit. yes, Aus was the superstar but it was a great team effort.

And, I might add, you never knew who was going to go off on any given night. It could be anyone. That's what made us so good. Opposing coaches never knew who they had to stop. And, they had a tuff as nails mindset. Didn't back up on anyone. (Except maybe Stanford. :twitcy:

IMO, that was our last really really great team. Made the Elite 8 as I recall.

Nikki's years here did not escape without drama. Whether from her family, Bill or Bingley transfer. But there was also a core of stability to the years as Nikki, Brynn, Fallon came in together back in 2011 and all set graduate together. (Kileah Mays came too, and she was the one of the four I had real fascination. At 6'2" and muscular, I saw her as the real deal for Bill to shape into a winner. Alas, her personality was artistic, family-orientated and grew lonely for Dallas with her first season. I think she transferred to Texas State and last I saw was doing okay after re-shirting.)

The article was interesting. I think she has pro-potential, but I never watch WNBA because ISU has never had a player there. I also thought Hallie had pro-potential. Actually I have a feeling that the pros haven't figured out what pro-potential is yet in the WNBA. I am mainly interested in seeing this team figure out their defensive problems. I think it is what is holding us back. If they could start playing some solid defense all throughout the game, instead of having constant mental lapses. It is the difference between this team and others that were better. They have the ability to score, defense stops them from moving the team to the next level. Nikki has the role that she wants this year, and that is leading the offense. Maybe she or someone else needs to take up another role and push the team to improve on defense. It is all about positioning, and anticipation. You have to know your opponent. I would like to see the team have a good tournament run. They are capable if they get their defense straightened out.
