Do a survey of the same students after 1 year of college and see if they are still going to the same school for their 2nd year.

Not sure what you mean by this... if these are the top graduates in the state, they're most likely going to be staying in school.

Never said they wouldn't stay in school...purpose would be to see if they switched schools...

It normally seems like the better students are more committed to the school that they chose. I think that part of the reason is because they do a better job at researching before plunging in.

I find it interesting that more top scholars are going to UNL/UNO than are going to Minnesota, KU, Wisconsin, or Illinois. Besides pharmacy I wasn't aware that Neb. had any strong programs. Someone care to enlighten me?

My guess is that would again be due largely to proximity. With Omaha right over the border and Lincoln not that much further, I'd imagine they get a good chunk of students out of western Iowa.

Yep. Growing up in NW Iowa, lots of kids look to border colleges such as UNO, UNL, Wayne State, USD, SDSU and others. What with the east side bias of the state, and especially the biggest state newspaper (the Rag), it is easy to understand why many people in western Iowa feel alienated as Iowans. Sad but true. Register's coverage is horrible, both the SC Journal and Omaha weird harold cover western Iowa better, and ISU coverage is fair also.

Yeah, I know lots of kids around here (Sioux City) go to UNL/UNO/USD etc. but the proximity of Illinois and Minnesota to the population centers of Iowa made me think that a lot of Iowa's top scholars would be going there, especially since both UMinn and UIll are better schools than UNL/UNO.

I agree with your points. I was just surprised to see UNL on the list.

Also, I believe that the University of Nebraska-Omaha offers some of the western Iowa counties in state tuition.
